Hello all! I am starting my new 125 gal(180gal with sump).

I recently went to my local big als and they had a fantastic 125 gal with sps and lps and everything was doing amazing and there was no algea what so ever.

I looked at their system and sump to see what they had, and to my surprise they weren't using any macro algea as a nutrient export?!?

I asked who took care of it and they told me they didn't chaeto as it was a time bomb and old way of doing things. I never heard of this but also couldn't deny how healthy the tank looked.

What do you think? I previously had cheato is my previous 125 but it sucked up all the nutrients. Right now im debating if I should or not this time. Any suggestions? Thank you!

Bear in mind - with tanks at the LFS it’s someone’s literal job to maintain them. There’s orders of magnitude more time, effort and expense that goes into these than the average home aquarium.
