Thought id share some photos of my floating reef that i have created .
There is approximately 20kg for each structure.
I used two pieces of 20mm thick acrylic which i then bent too make a Uform on which the rocks sit ...each acrylic Uform is capable of carrying more than 50kg total .

Here you can see how it sits without sand in

Here some photos of the bending of acrylic

Great article. Really helped me with my aquascape.

Great topic. I tried to digest all of the information on 1/3’s and the swirl pattern, I came up with this. I’ve posted in Facebook and got positive feedback, however. I’m not confident but I’m going to go with it SPS dominant 425XL

I don’t drink Nattie it’s a Christmas gift

I went with a more chunky rock setup. Not as many swim throughs but it fits my desired overal look while still providing places for fish to hide, sleep and swim freely.

Redid the right side to add a few more arches.

Where it started and how it evolved. The latest one is my final placement.

I added a quick video to see the entire aspect.

I took a lot of time seeing what's best for the fish and ideas from many other reefers and ultimately what I like to see.

I really like this. Seems like it will serve well as a base for your new reef.

Coral placement will be another beast of its own but I tried to incorporate a ideal living space for the fish and good spots for coral down the road... definitely a balancing act. But just another reason I love this hobby.

I love this old thread, i’m amazed its still going and happy i can contribute. I have a well established 350g reef with an aquascape that I’m reasonably happy with and not brave enough to change, but i’d love some feedback on my new project, a 500g fish only that is just starting its cycle. Dimensions are 66 by 48 by 36 inches, so a large high box lol. Anyway, pictures enclosed from the two viewable sides as well as the top. I had wanted to do 3 rock structures but to go high enough on the one i had to go wider which eliminated one structure. I’m going back in this weekend to tweak some more including enlarging the small island but feedback would be appreciated!
