I just rearranged all my rock as I am just starting to add a few corals. I have a long way to go and a lot more to learn. I wanted to ask for other members opinions on my reefscaping.

That last pic is where my two sandsifting gobies have their burrow. They are in the process of covering the bottom rocks with sand again after I rearranged everything.

Looks great. My only suggestions would be

(1) vary the height between the piles a little more

(2) push one pile toward the back and one toward the front to give a look of depth. Or, turn one of the piles about 30 degrees so it isn't exactly facing the front of the tank. It will look more natural and will give the look of depth.

Thanks so much. I think that's exactly what I need to do. I loved how it turned out but there was something that just wasn't quite right. I'll upload pics once it's done.

Hi all,

I have two designs I came up with. The tank is 30" high so it's 6" higher than the background board. this is the first design

this is the second, Ive changted the left section to be slightly bigger for more coral placement. But I think it might be to much rock.

I like the first placement. In the second, the curve of the rocks all seem to be going the same way to the left.

After taking sawdonkey's advice, I rearranged my rock a bit more. The right side is where my gobies have their burrow so I decided not to touch the two main rocks there. I pretty much rearranged the whole left side bringing it forward and turning it. I tweaked a couple rocks in center formation. All in all, I am pretty happy how it turned out. My livestock love it too as they are now checking out every nook and cranny. Here are the pics. 20160905_221917.jpg 20160905_222302.jpg

Our tank is almost a year old, 125 g. Had a 55 gallon for almost 2 years that we transferred into the new tank. Found the 55 g too small and upgraded. We are using two canister filters right now until we have the money and knowledge to switch. We have a fluval 406 and an FX6. We don't have a skimmer yet as I'm still trying to convince hubby about adding corals. Our lights are 2 fluval T5 HO double florescent with white and blue bulbs. We went into this blind, knowing nothing about having a saltwater tank. Right now my main concern is taking care of the livestock I have. There are only 2 LFS in our city and they both tell us different things when asking questions so we come home and I research the forums here to find the answers. The forum has saved us many times. We've made a ton of mistakes and unfortunately lost livestock, but our tank has been stable now for the last 6 months and we are just letting it be right now. Lesson learned : Do not rush to add livestock. Always use a quarantine tank. Get some knowledge before jumping in with both feet. I'd love to meet someone close to me, with knowledge about corals, placement, needs etc. I have a few in my tank that a friend talked me into buying but going any further scares the heck out of me because there is so much to know about them. It's not like you can just buy one because you like the shape and color and put it in your tank. There is so much more involved. I know I don't have the proper equipment to go any further right now and it's so confusing trying to figure out what I need and which is better. Cost is a huge factor as well.

FYI so far it looks like your doing a great job and tank looks great. Yes the hobby can be expensive if you don't know what your doing and buy alot of equipment you really don't need. I have been researching for god knows how long now. I've been trying to set up my tank for a year now but every time something comes up job family and what ever else. Keep up the good work n yes a lot of LFS will just tell u what they want to get that sale unless u have a reliable long time LFS like I do because I use to do freshwater for years and they tell me what I need if am going ro do corals or just a fish only tank. I have a 180 currently sitting awaiting to come alive one of these days.

I hope when you do get the 180 going you will post your build. I'd love to see it come to life.

I think it looks pretty good! What type of rock is that "rounded" rock? Is it porous and light?

There are a few smooth rounded type rocks in the pile. They're the same composition as the rest, light & porous - it's all Fiji skeleton rock. The same as live rock, only dead.
