Time to treat DT with PraziPro?

Hi all:

New to the hobby, but am worried about one of my clowns as it has been attempting to eat, but then spits food back out, and has been having long, white stringy feces. I have attached a picture to show current state, and wanted to get some advice before beginning a treatment in the DT with PraziPro.

Unfortunately, my 10gal QT tank is presently occupied by another fish.

Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Please post a pic(s) under brighter white light intensity as this spitting out can be mucus in its gill from early stage brook. As for feces, if you are feeding brine shrimp, mysis shrimp or both, they may have excess mucus in the stomach lining which often mimics internal issues.

Additional pictures. Hope that this helps. I have been providing some PE Calanus along with TDO pellets, and while it does seem to eat a few of the calanus, really not much.

I did just feed some pellets (mid-day) and she did seem to eat those…

I also recently saw it jerking (not the twitching I have seen that expresses submission by the males)

Praziquantel is only effective against external flukes and internal tapeworms, and that does not cause mucus feces.

Not all causes for mucus feces are treatable (coccidia and viruses for example, are not treatable). Sometimes, this is due to a fatty diet. That can be tested by feeding it frozen adult brine shrimp. The other treatment is metronidazole to treat against flagellate protozoans. That needs to be done in a treatment tank though.

Interesting. So feeding the pellets may be the cause for the mucus feces?

I do have frozen PE mysis shrimp that I can try next, but not sure how to effectively chop them up. The first time I tried, the fish all seemed to ignore it because it was too big. Any recommendations on how to chop cut them down to size them for the clown and other fish?

I would hold back - on any treatment - unless - there is weight loss, etc or other symptoms. Often transfer itself results in these symptoms;

Pellets typically don’t cause mucus feces, but mysids can. Brine shrimp is mostly exoskeleton so it acts as roughage in the diet.
