I spent most of yesterday at the home of Rich Dietz, known here and several other forums as Mr. Firemouth. Most of the afternoon was spent photographing corals and talking about reef stuff. After dinner with Rich's family (a couple of terrific daughters, btw), we spent a couple of hours photographing Rich's first love, Firemouth cichlids. He has two mated pairs of Firemouths and several others at various levels of dominance, or lack thereof. Our efforts were aimed at getting photos of them displaying the fire-red gills for which they are named. They were displaying their brains out until we started photographing them, but I did get one decent shot of the display. Here is that shot and two others. Thanks again to Rich for a great day of "aquarium stuff."

Nice pics. Those are some good looking firemouths! I'm a big fan of cichlids. I have 2 large tanks full of them.

Gary I had a great time also! I would not of ever been able to get some of the pics I did without guidance!

The use of the cameras on board flash definitely ruined my pics, so the next big purchase for the camera is the Remote Flash. My pics all were too dark and had lots of pixeling in post corrections. Here are the 3 best and it is not that good....

This guy was getting light from the reef tank before I shut them down so he is extra blue, it is the white balnce causing it from the 20Ks....

This is the pic of the night for me here with the Firemouths...(The Bull Firemouth, Alpha Male)

Here is another shot of the rival male...

My ISO was high at 800 so that is where most of the noise is coming from.

The 2 shots of the Endler's livebearer males I took came out OK though!

I plan on one of those 4 lamp, 4' T5 HO's on there that should help with lighting over the NO T12's on there now. We will see how the next series of pics after the first of the year do. :)
