I’m trying to bring reef photography back one pic at a time!

Yesterday I spent some time practicing to get some really close macro shots. It’s much harder than I thought to get these kind of shots, but I think they turned out nicely.

I haven’t been posting my pics lately to instagram, but I plan to start doing that more. Feel free to follow me if desired: Instagram page

Thanks for looking! Always open to feedback and comments. :D

Nice I use a couple different methods, both with an orange filter. I have an Iphone ProMax I think 13. Also a handheld WiFi microscope off of Amazon. There are newer ones out there with a high resolution than what I have. But it is good for the internet and just looking to make sure you do not have any pests. Downside is you have to hold it flat against the glass to keep the focus. This is an updated 4k version

Those pics turned out pretty sweet for a phone! I was getting about 3.5X magnification between my lens and a raynox 250. Personally I was getting real frustrated at how close I had to get, etc with the 250, so I ordered the 150 (~2.5X magnification and double the length to focus) and I’m hoping it will work better.

Handheld microscope is an interesting ideas I haven’t really toyed with. Intriguing.

I personally was frustrated with my imagine quality from my phone, so I had to go the camera route. For most the phones are good enough though!

I’ve been practicing a ton and trying to get progressively better at it. You are definitely correct that image quality definitely gets hindered by the forum compression. :)

I have yet brought out the extension tubes for my Nikon macro lens. I guess I get more inspired by the moment and the phone and the microscope are always handy. For me to dig the full frame stuff out of the closet and set it up would be the same amount of time to do water changes on two tanks. Since it seems I am always behind the 8 ball when it comes to tank time, quick and easy will have to do. But I must say I may be inspired by you!

I have an iPhone 13 Pro(not max) and it can tan take pretty decent pictures, though it sometimes needs a bit of patience. I have a pretty old Canon DSLR that still works and I’ve thought about trying out with reef pics but overall I’m pretty pleased with the results I’ve gotten.
Here’s a few of mine that I’ve taken

Glad to hear I’m helping to rekindle that spark! Definitely understand the convenience of the phone and microscope.

I have to somewhat plan to take pics with the camera because the setup, etc. but I made a promise to myself if I bought a camera it will not sit on the shelf, so far I’ve been keeping that promise. Very rewarding in a nerdy way when you get those killer pics though.
Thanks!

Happy to connect with another that enjoys taking picture of their reef. :D Looks like you have some cool ones!

Here were a few more cool ones I took also. I am on a mission to get a killer chef kiss picture of my Christmas tree worms, but they are very challenging to get a crisp, detailed photo of more than one at a time.
