I had to “look up” that name.
Sorry. Was told about them by a marine biologist thus the scientific name. She needs some photography tips from Orion though.

Do leopards typically ship in sand or bag only?
I think it could be beneficial, some people do it others don’t, but only enough for it to get its body covered enough not like half the bag is sand.

I would imagine that it would help with its shipping stress wouldn't it?

I lost my blue throat today for no apparent reason I have had him for two years only :(
I am sorry.
They only live about 5 years or so anyway. Did you get him as a juvenile, or full terminal male? Usually, I can tell as they get old. Everything the same and all the other wrasses, as he was before, are thriving, he just get thinner, less active, less colorful, less flashing and just die. When this come at an appropriate time, I attribute it to old age. If it is obviously too soon, or if her left abruptly for the reef in the sky, then I would consider other causes.
Sorry for your loss. This is what we accept when we decided to keep Flasher and Fairy wrasses. I cut back on getting new wrasses because of this.

i got him as a full terminal male. He was getting less and less active recently rarely flashes and the colors weren’t as before even the throat wouldn’t really appear blue.
i have also lost my exquisite wrasse a while back in the same way, I also got him fully transitioned and he lasted 2 years too.
As of now I only own a melanarus and a pintail.

Many of the seasoned wrasse keeper tend to pay more for young fish rather than full grown male flasher and fairy.
This guy live for about 5 years in my tank. First picture within a few days of arrival from Petco. The second picture is a picture I got of him 10 months or so later.

And that’s why it’s been difficult for people like myself to get them. A lot of the ones they sell are already full grown terminal males. They just don’t seem to show the attention the young fish deserve. Honestly IMO the younger fish should be worth more.

I would always prefer buying young fish, however I rarely come by young wrasses (the country I live in has like 4 stores only)

WWC and TSA have the same problem. I think it’s due to “health during shipping percentages”
