Hi my name is Amanda and thanks to all of your beautiful pictures I have realized I now have an addiction...
Not pictured I also have an Exquisite Wrasse that arrived today and is in QT with the others. In my DT so far I have the Carpenter Wrasse. Sorry the pictures aren't the best they just don't stay still long enough. Lol Also I am horrible with scientific names so please forgive me for using common names.

You'll find that pencils are all the rage these days but soon learn that leopards are just the best fish, there is nothing cuter than a pair of pink streaks, and don't believe anything you read about peaceful possum wrasses--they are gangster!

I have seen the pencil on the website I ordered my others from but they were out of stock. They are lovely fish.

I've been on the hunt for a Pseudojuloides severnsi (Royal Pencil Wrasse) for a long time now. I check with distributors every Sunday. Alas! One day, though...

I am also now looking for 2-3 fairies or 2 fairies and one flasher, black leopard, and an Anampses twistii. Oh, and a Halichoeres iridis. This new tank is going to be insane. The crown jewel will be a Halichoeres lapillus or Halichoeres pallidus.

It’s weird with Anampses as they can seem fine and then just give up.

I guess it’s just always trial and error with this genus - some do great and others not so much. Hopefully the others all do well though!
I really should have come back a few days later. Those fish had just arrived the day before and there were plenty. Good lesson to never rush a purchase.

I haven't seen the Leuco yet today but I disturbed the tank when I got home and I saw a splash of sand. I'm going to assume it was him going back to bed.

I caught a glimpse of my exquisite under the rocks in the QT tank it moved a bit but it still hasn't come out in the open while I have been watching.

Doing a rip clean on the big boys today, since I wanted to rescape the tank and clean the sandbed. I added a few new fish and the maculosus angel is not a fan, so figured a complete reaquascape would help. Had a mirror up, which completely solved the sohal tang's aggression, but the maculosus is apparently too smart. I pulled over 2 lbs of clam shells from the sand bed...

I also decided I'm not adding any more wrasses. This tank is more than fully stocked, and these fish are still growing. Maybe down the road, if we move to a larger house I can look at some more fish only wrasses if we upgrade to a 10'x4' footprint from this 8'x2'.

Dumb chaoti is still going to bed around 4-5 pm
Better coming out than not though!

Also, the two pencils - The Kaleidos is gorgeous from top down, the colours are like no other. And the Edwardi just glows, unfortunately I think I’ve lost the Severnsi and a Kaleidos.

One thing I love about the sand sleepers is it seems all those genera are amazing for control of pests;
Pseudojuloides knock down bristle/fireworms
Anampses seem to destroy flatworms
Halichoeres… well, we all love them for their pest hunting skills!
Macropharyngodon (And Xenojulis) seem to be similar to Anampses and just knock out Flatworms/‘Bugs’
Coris and Novaculichthys will slaughter just about any invert

I mean my Jade has been out of the tank for a good 2-3 weeks now and I’ve yet to have pests resurface with my Pencils, Twistii and Leopards.
The twistii and kaleidos are without a doubt the best though as they love to hug the rockwork more than the others with the Twistii almost never leaving unless I add my algae covered fragrack from my nano.
