17 days now. The tang seemed to go through a normal adjustment period, where he was timid for a week or so before he’d really actively swim around the tank. He’s fairly small.

Assuming that bullying is the culprit, am I better off with a different Cirrhilabrus species? At very least, I’ve learned that I should’ve used an acclimation box.

Like Tcook said, they are notorious for being wimps. So even if no one was being aggressive in the tank, he might’ve been really hesitant and scared to come out and eat if he thought he had to compete.

In the future keeping him in an acclimation box for a few days and feeding him a lot will help him get some confidence and nutrition (they don’t really eat in transit) that will build his strength. And over feed your tank once you release so that no one feels like they have to compete, because there’s plenty for everyone.

And one last thing, it’s always possible he was unwell before you got him. Just weakness and stress from shipping, being in a store, etc.

Well, the Fiji Christmas and the Moyers Leopard both made an appearance for food this afternoon. Some chasing going on by both the chaliasi fairy and the cosmetus, especially towards the moyers. No signs of any physical damage, and both ate well, don't look thin at all, and are continuing to traverse the tank. Hopefully a few days and some extra feedings make all the difference. The pencil wrasse is completely ignored by everyone, as is the tilefish. No pic of the fiji, since it darted under the sand as soon as my phone came up

Anyone ever noticed that the Severnsi Pencils sometimes have a green throat? Mine seems to gain a pale green throat when he displays but then keeps it for a short period after he’s done and just before.

Mrs. Pink Streak out for lunch, and a lower quality photo of both once my male caught up.

I’d love to get another 2 to regain a trio again. Your pair are gorgeous, how’s the male colouring up for you?

I’d love to have a trio, too. I’ve been tempted to get another female but I’m hesitant because I don’t want to ruin their little relationship in any way haha.

And the male has his nice colors now. I wish I could get some photos that really capture the color though, because they are more impressive than come across in pictures!

Question for the crowd:

I’ve been looking at Solarensis (or aquamarinus, I’m still unclear about the distinction) today. However, this is the one type of fish, not just wrasse, that neither my father nor I have ever been successful with. Between the two of us we’ve tried 5 in the last 8 years and every single one of them ends up perishing in less than 3 months.

I have kept far more delicate species of fish, and I’ll admit that it bothers me that success continues to elude me. But I just don’t want to keep killing innocent fish (I want to get him another one for his birthday, but I’m hesitant).

Anyways, the question I have is whether this specifies is particularly prone to some issue (maybe UWND?) or if there is some kind of indicator to better identify a healthy specimen?

This actually confuses me as I’ve found this species to be tough. Have you added this after other species of boisterous Cirrhilabrus?

TLDR: I’ve tried a lot of things and it never works out

It has definitely been confusing and tough with these. And we’ve added them at different points. We did have one that we got from a family friend that was shutting his tank down almost a decade ago that we had for a year before it perished (likely of old age). It was a bully, so when we first tried to replace it (and my dad set up a new system) he added it last. Bad choice, and quickly learned from that.

My dad set up another big system at his house and he added one (and another try after the first) as basically the only fish with plans to stock the rest a few months later. Neither of the two made it, and the only tank mates were a few fire fish and a McCoskers.

Then I tried one at my house again, it made it 2.5 weeks and just started swimming with the arched back and died. The last one he tried made it 3 months, was a coward for a month and then became a bully, and then died. And that’s in a ~300g that is peaceful that has my Vivien, a pintail, and other peaceful fish.

Sorry for the essay haha

That's rough. I lost a Labouti to UNWD, it was terrible to see in person. I hate losing fish.

It is terrible. Losing a fish is always depressing, but the feeling of helplessness/inability to do anything about it is just plain terrible

I definitely know the 3rd one… the genus begins with H.
The middle I believe I know and it’s one I love if it is the species I think it is.
The first one I know the genus but not the exact species.

Whuch rhomboids do I have? Is it a male and female or two males? One is golden color and one is redi-ish gold.

Is a terminal male the same as a super male?

I can’t see the video, if you upload it to Streamable or YT it’ll work better. Or you could post some pictures instead.

Maybe oversimplifying, but a “terminal male” a wrasse that has transitioned from female to male and can no longer go back and will forever be a male.

In nature there are sometimes sub males that can stay sub males for a while or even revert back to female. And “super males” are basically the alphas of all of the terminal males, biggest, most colorful, etc.

Yep
Thought it would be hard since you don’t see this genus very often
The middle I believe I know and it’s one I love if it is the species I think it is.
With this one I’m not 100% on the exact species but genus is fairly easy
The first one I know the genus but not the exact species.
I thought this one wasn’t that hard because it’s a fairly common species of that genus
