Everyone is getting pencil wrasses!!
One of my favorite Genus of wrasse! Definitely recommend them if you have a sandbed!

I've kept splendens and severnsi in the past, hopefully will find another severnsi locally at some point. I don't like ordering fish online, especially sand sleepers.

What do y'all think? Would a pink streak wrasse (Pseudocheilinops ataenia) do ok in with these guys? They're growing and competing for frozen food just fine with a clownfish and a mandarin (also eating frozen) currently. Tank is a 36 gallon bowfront.

I mean the wrasse would do fine. Fun fact seahorses are the second most successful predators after dragonflies if you count success as amount of hunts succeeded out of attempted. Other fun fact seahorses are absolutely awful predators in every other way and it’s a miracle they’ve not gone extinct.

I love watching these little ones hunt the frozen mysis as it drifts around. They try so hard.

If I can find a pink streak locally I may have to give it a shot. Gonna let the tank establish a bit more first though, give the mandarin a bit less pod competition for a bit. Already lots of pods, and hoping for some new goodies with the gorgonians, macroalgaes, and sponges coming later this week. Also getting 3 yellow headed jawfish to go in here.

I'm getting weekly distributor listenstarting tomorrow to look for a severnsi. Had 2 of them a few months ago but that's when I lost the brunneus and knew I needed to get a new lid first. Setting up the QT soon.

Pencil wrasse addicts… Did you know they actually display much like flashers and fairies?! The severnsi and Kaleidos were showing off their true colours with displays just a few minutes ago!

Other good news from my wrasse gang… The larger Meleagris Leopard was out for an hour or longer today! She is showing the facial signs of transition with the striping now and I can’t wait to see him courting with the female.

And a wrasse I love but don’t show nearly as much as I should. The Twistii.

Hey guys, for some reason i cant keep a wrasse to save my life. Ive lost 3 now at this point! Yellow Coris, Melanarus, Red coris.

I have Lyretail Anthias that are happy as can be along with everyone else in the tank. I am suspect of my Arc Eye Hawk though. Every now and again ill see it wack somebody but the wrasses aren't all beat up when they are dead. They will be eating and then burry themselves for a few days then come out and eat. and Boom dead! (I have Ocean direct Fiji Pink) WHAT AM I DOING WRONG HERE

How big is the tank? I’ve had a nightmare with Hawkfish and wrasses before…

That Hawkfish is likely the issue - I had a Lyretail in a 4’ 120G that beat up my 2 most prized wrasses and 3-4 fish in total.
I just got rid of a hawk from my 110, he (and the borbonias anthias) killed the lineatus I added within 24 hours.

You have so much going on it’s hard to keep track. Do you still have Ikea 1.0?
Unfortunately she passed in the transfer but she was the first fish I decided to actually replace and not get another species of angel.
