This all started while perusing the local Offer Up ads. I noticed that @Innovative Marine had a IM25 lagoon in their Blems and seconds. I had bought a couple tanks prior from the @Innovative Marine warehouse and was very happy with what I had got from them. The ad stated that this tank had a small chip in the corner but was otherwise intact. In fact when I got there I was told it was leak tested. So I brought it home with the intention to turn it into a frag tank. I was going to tear out the AIO part and drill some holes for an overflow and return. Well good intentions lost out to other priorities, I still had to find a stand, sump and overflow etc. Time passes and meanwhile my LFS is cleaning up their showroom and I discover they have a brand new IM25g lagoon EXT. Awesome I will sell my IM25g AIO and use the money towards something that was already exactly what I wanted, no effort, no fuss.
I proceeded to put up my AIO for sale and a few people came and looked at it, but no one could get over the chip. There was no way if I didn’t sell this tank I would be allowed to buy a new one, so I decided to scrap plan B and go with plan A. I am really glad I did because as I was removing the AIO part I discovered there was a HUGE crack in the back of the tank. Oh well, so much for taking @Innovative Marine at their word. I called and let them know, but I was reminded that not only had some time elapsed since I bought it, it was an "as is" cash transaction. I don’t fault them for that, I am a little disappointed they told me they leak tested it. I would have especially have been upset if someone actually bought it from me.
Here is the crack... It was covered by the vinyl so visually you could not see it until you removed the AIO part.

I ordered a new slightly thicker piece of glass to replace the rear panel. I just used regular glass because this was not a viewing panel and I was going to put vinyl on it anyway. I think the cost was $12 with polished edges. They actually cut two accidentally so I gave them a couple bucks for the extra piece. I laid out the overflow and return placement and proceeded to drill the new glass. I want to thank @ESHOPPS.INC for being awesome and contributing to this project. I have used their prodigy overflow in my Frankencube build and was very happy with it.

Drilling the back glass:

Next is the fun part Prep! (not fun) Everything has to be perfectly clean for the new silicone to adhere, that is the most work. It is even more work when you accidentally silicone the back on the wrong way. I did such a good job it was twice as hard to remove my seal than the factory’s. But hey, I least got confirmation of the job I did worked.

I should of taken more pics here but I installed some teal vinyl from the Dollar Tree and the Eshopps overflow. Here is the tank finished with the overflow and return bulkhead in place.

Equipment, plumbing and leak testing:

Equipment list:
Tank: IM25g lagoon modified
Stand: IM APS stand, black, used
Sump: Somatic discontinued ( I like these because they are basically an open box)
Skimmer: Bubble Magnus Curve 5 elite.
Rollermat: AquaMaxx AF-RS170 I love these, I have them on three of my four tanks. While discontinued I use the Red Sea 250 fleece which I prefer for its 200 micron size.
Lighting: Radion Gen 4 pro with AI blades Grows
Overflow: Eshopps Prodigy M
Return pump: Varios 4 Reef Octopus
Return: @Vivid Creative Aquatics RFG generator
Gyre: Maxspect 330
Heater: Helios 200w single element
Cooling: Twin fan Amazon (Happy Go Lucky Star Fortune brand :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing: )
Control/Monitoring : Tied into my Apex

Plumbing notes:
While having a tub full of fittings, it seems you only have three of the four you need and when to get to the big box store they are out also, so you have to rethink your direction...
I went with sch80 fittings from the tank with red one inch. I think I am being original with that... But hey I like it. For the return I went with orange and white fittings OMG gasp.... in 3/4". I have yet to plumb in my manifold yet, but the ball valve is in place so that is an easy do.
For PVC cement I use Fusion clear which I like a lot, no need for primer. The down side with fusion I have found if it gets too old, it fuses way too fast and you get leaks. So I made sure I got a new can for this project.
One of the things I do on my tanks is plumb in unions at the bottom level of the tanks so in case I have to move them in the future you can set the tank down upright on a flat surface

Leak testing:
I was pretty confident in my work so I just ran the tank next to the kitchen. I mean what's 35 gallons of water on the floor of a second story?

With the leak test done, I transferred the tank to the other side of the room and filled it with the water from the show frag tank which some of my corals were currently residing and some water from my other tanks plus about 50% new water. I wanted to have some nutrients in the water already when I transferred over my corals. Even though the lighting is the same as my 40g I could not suspend it from the ceiling, so I went with the Radion tank mount system, a little pricey but I got most of the stuff on sale or open box.
I also decided to do bare bottom with this, so far so good. I recently added a basket of two little fishes Reborn in the sump to help hold on to some Po4. The transfer of my corals went pretty well, I used some frag racks I made from the Dollar Tree "No Effort DIY Frag Racks"
So this has been up for about a six weeks, I am struggling with lack of nutrients. Some of the corals have great color while others have good polyp extension are a bit pale for my liking. I am running AFR for now and the standard parameters are in check so that's good. It is getting better every day I think What is surprising is even though this tank is next to the window, I have not had any uglies at all. On my 40g as soon as I clean a wave maker or a return I have nuisance algae growing on it right away, even though I do not have it any where else in the tank. Since all of these surfaces are new, I though it would be GHA/Bryopsis town.
I can't wait until these test corals are doing great and I can put in some higher end corals in there. Although I do have a GMK and a Stratosphere zoa in there...

Excuse the mess please, it is only like this 95% of the time...

I always struggle with bare bottom and nutrients, I made a decision along time ago on any of my frag tank builds to use large ground up gravel pieces not fine sand, I find its big enough to become a giant copepad factory and allow them to move around and yet small enough to not look abnormal. Yes, its a huge area for build up of crap but it keeps my entire clean up crew always eating.

I went with a basket of TLF Reborn in the sump. I have to say having a clean bottom of the tank is great. I wasn't sure at first if I was going to do a bare bottom, this is my first. With an actual DT you have live rock that will do a nice job of holding all your Biome. This frag tank is on it's own system so I have to be very aware what's going on with the water. It is almost like doing a Nano/pico tank.
I also added a bit of miracle mud.

I just cleaned out a section of my sump and was gonna turn into a cheato chamber but I wouldn't mind giving the miracle mud a chance and a cheato in the chamber. I also don't know if its very necessary if you're selling out of that tank. The water going back in from the selling should almost cover all and any water change needs.

Probably going to be more of a grow out tank than anything. There are enough local frag swaps that I will probably sell at. I mean, I am there anyway, might want to try making money instead of spending it.
Personally I feel salt mixes are only part of the equation. Creating a diverse biome would be a step towards the complete picture. The way my tanks react when I use fresh NSW for a water change, everybody goes crazy. Plus there is the claim that Miracle Mud can reverse HLLE. I have a blue tang that I rescued from Petco that had fin rot and severe HLLE. I would like to see if this can help with the scaring.
I might be just my imagination, but I feel some of my pale corals are already starting to get their color back.

Turned out great! I lost my IM40 to a crack that happened when I’m moving. Wish I would have replaced the glass and made it have an overflow like you did!
It is really easy... it is all in the cleaning (hard part) . I really love the @ESHOPPS.INC overflow.

i love how you took a big bummer and made something so neat with it!:beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:
I almost didn’t do it, I almost used it as an excuse to just get the 25g lagoon EXT. But I am frugal and I already bought this tank for a coupe hundred. I mean, I think it might of been $30 bucks in materials to fix it. And I got what I wanted.

Things seem to be going well, My Po4 is being eaten up pretty quick. Using TM Phos feed, Polyp Lab, trying to keep things in check. I do have various algae in weird places but it is small. One interesting thing is my fav coral in my main tank the polyps are clearish. I have a frag of this in the tank and the polyps are redish. :thinking-face:
IMG_2636.jpeg

Also I snagged a frag of this at my LFS and it had no polyp extension but it is starting to have a bit in the frag tank.

we will see. At the LFS, they are not good with Acros. So the gave me a chunk to see what it is supposed to look like I think. It is still pretty pale. The PE is small and clear so hard to tell right now.
