Short video of the new flame angel harem (1.3), the new baby gold flake angel (is eating frozen!), and my juvenile regal angel (had him for almost 5 months). At 34 seconds in, you can see all 4 flames in the same shot (you will have to look close ;)). That was a lucky catch.

Hi everyone.
Need some opinions here. This angelfish arrived yesterday. It was sold to me by an Australian vendor as a tigerpyge.
Before it arrived they called me to say that it will just be yellow for a few hours while it is stressed. It's been 12 hours and the fish looks identical to a lemonpeel. There's no hint of stripes and there's also no darker caudal fin to this fish. It's about 5/6cm long.
I don't think the fish is stressed, it eats pellets ravenously and isn't scared of me at all.

The vendor is quite reputable, and im not saying they sold me a $700 lemonpeel. But it sure looks like a lemonpeel.
Anyone have any thoughts on the identity of this fish?

Also, i'm pretty sure it would be a wild caught cocosensis x eibli given the price point and not a captive bred one.

That's a hybrid, though it looks more like a Centropyge flavissima x Centropyge vrolikii to me, and I've seen those pretty regularly recently here at LFS here in the US the past couple months. It has the eye of a vrolikii or eiblii

If I had to bet I'd say it's C. flavissima x C. vrolikii, the face is identical to a halfblack angelfish, however it's similar to C. eibli, but if the latter was the option then you would be seeing vertical lines on this fish, which is not the case. Your fish is an ideal size, and at that point tigerpyge angels already have very well marked vertical lines, the fish is beautiful either way, I don't recall seeing a fish with a face like this before.

I'm sorry to see this has happened to you mate. I viewed them in store recently and they looked the same there as well, absolutely no vertical lines.

I bought a Lemonpeel X Halfblack last week from Reeftopia for $150. I think that is what you have received, certainly not a tigerpyge.

Yes, you are correct. I actually talked to Michael about it and he told me the same thing.
One of the photos in this article is actually the one used on the product i bought from. It shows that most hybrids are yellow with black tails, some have partial or faint stripes, and some lack stripes and black tails (which makes them look identical to lemonpeels). I had an individual without a black tail or stripes.

I'm sure it was an honest mistake on their part though. Fortunately, i was able to organise someone to pick up the fish and i will be getting a full refund.

Very nice job with those angels! I've read more than once that rock beauties don't make it long term. Yours is looking good.

What do you feed those guys?

We love our majestic angel, but it's one of the most frustrating fish I have when it comes to feeding. We have special feeders for our butterfly, and it has learned to sit at the feeder until the food is melted enough to suck it out of the small holes. So it literally stands guard anywhere we put this feeder and gets most all the food before finally leaving just a tiny bit for the butterfly.

Gorgeous, smart fish. But that's frustrating.
