Need some suggestions, just added a majestic angel and he is getting the snot beat out of him is there anything that I can do to help him out or will this all pass in a day or two and hope he survives.
Sorry to put it like this but if you want him to survive remove him and get rid of him or remove everyone else and keep him. You should make a list of fish you want and buy /introduce them in a least aggressive to most aggressive manner. Having territorial /aggressive fish then introducing a more docile or difficult fish is just a recipe for disaster.

Other than the grazing what did you get them to eat? Any secrets? I have one in qt and going on his second week won't touch food and didn't show interest. Afraid there isn't enough in there for him to survive much longer[emoji27]

Hey. I understand your panicking. Angelfish can be very difficult to feed like we wish they would. Here's what I do when I am trying to encourage a feeding response. I simply start off by offering artemia nauplii (aka baby brine shrimp). Newly hatched BBS are somewhat nutritious for juvenile and adult fish before they absorb their yolk sacs but this obviously won't sustain them. The swimming motion and the size of BBS are irresistible to every fish I have kept that is small enough to target BBS as a food source.

Once you have your fish eating BBS, start supplementing at least 24 hour old brine shrimp with Selcon. Selcon is high in HUFAs and DHA which will be even more nutritious for your fish in QT. Offer live brine shrimp 3 or 4 times a day.

Make sure your fish eats quite a bit of the either the BBS or enriched brine shrimp. I would perform daily 20% water changes if possible. Keep QT water as clean as possible.

Once he is adjusted to eating BBS and/or enriched brine shrimp, then I start to feed mysis that has been enriched with selcon. Mine are already eating cyclopeeze and are grazing on filamentous algae on the back of the tank.

Before you add brine shrimp, turn pumps off. Let the brine shrimp be easy targets so that the fish can eat at will. If you notice in my video, the pumps are turned off and that's why you see them eating. They are locking in on BBS and cyclopeeze.

***One note here - For finicky eaters such as the multibar, I would add several pieces of LR from my display tank to the QT in order for the fish to pick at it for copepods, sponges, etc. They really need an established tank in order to find other food/prey items other than what we offer them at first.

This is just a tip in order to attain a feeding response. Once you have a feeding response along with good husbandry, the fish has a chance. Good luck! If you have any further questions, feel free to PM me.

Thank you for the very detailed response. To start a bbs culture is definitely something to look into but at this point it's a bit late. You definitely gave me an idea though, live rock from the display to give him a chance to graze at least. Will look into raising brine though. Thanks! [emoji106]

It's not at all too late to start BBS. Your LFS should have some available. It just takes 18-24hrs to harvest artemia nauplii. I would definitely get that started ASAP.

I didn't realize. I know of one place that sells live brine shrimp. Going to read up on it now. Thank you.

I would put him in the Display and let it pick at rocks eventually he will eat along with other fish.

Too many possible bullies. If he was eating I wouldn't hesitate. We'll wing it with the live food. Don't want to high Jack the thread anymore than I have but thank you all for the input. My angel and I thank you all!

Beautiful fish. Let us know how he reacts to the BBS. These fish must be trained to eat prepared foods typically unless you get lucky. Patience is a virtue.

Beautiful angels everyone!

I recently added a Golden to my DT. He was in QT for over 6wks and was eating anything and everything, but since going into the DT hasn't touched prepared foods (frozen, pellets, nori, etc.) He is picking off of the rockwork in my 185g which has been established for 5yrs. Just noticed today that he was nipping at a couple of LPS & SPS corals as well. I don't particularly care for that, but if I can get him eating prepared foods again I feel that would stop or diminish. Most of those are large colonies that he really can't hurt as he is under 2".

I have considered adding a Multi bar that is also in QT to the DT. It too is eating frozen and pellets at this time but has only been in for about a week or so. Has anyone attempted to keep these species together? Any advice on feeding other than attempting live naupli and working from there?

Please post pics. I have not had a golden angel before. They are beautiful. Be sure to share both the golden and multibar angels.

Is the multibar soon eating?

No luck so far with the bbs.. Maybe when they are bigger but at the size the bbs are I don't even think they see em. I had a golden dwarf too but he never touched anything and ultimately parished in about 1 and a half 2 months

I'm sorry to hear about your experience with the Golden. I know they can be very shy and difficult. I hope you're having better luck with the Multi Bar.

I will have to attempt to get a photo of the Golden. If he see's you approaching he darts off. I noticed it's actually my Darwin clowns that are harassing him. The great news in all of this is he began eating frozen foods yesterday evening. He also came out again this evening and took frozen foods. So that is a wonderful thing! Now if I can get him to come out further each day and mix some pellets in with the frozen, we should be set.

Now the bad, the Multi Bar is still at the LFS and is being treated for flukes. It's on a minimum 6 weeks hold in a separate QT system. It's still eating like a pig and has a nice huge belly on it. It's just going to be awhile before it will be purchased and brought home.

Nice, well worth the wait. This is my second and will be my last multibar angel I try. The golden angel maybe I'll try again further down the line with a less crowded /active aquarium
