Picked up some snails today. I would’ve gone for a coral but didn’t want to risk anything after the deresa passed. That guy now lives on as a memory with my other colonies and such that have memories attached to them.

The two conches aren’t replacements for my other, that guy still lives and loves life however I thought he could do with some sand backup.

In my opinion, yes.

30 minute freshwater dip is the treatment of choice. Stress events can influence the onset of PMD.
The fresh water dip, is it best done in RO with a pump for circulation? I know it sounds silly but I am unsure if I have a wave pump.

No circulation is needed. Match tank temp and dip clam for 30 min in RO/DI.

Are you using activated carbon in this tank ?

Yes I am, using Activated Carbon. When I get home I will definitely be freshwater dipping this clam as I’ve read Orion’s article on PMD and he described mucus strands which I have noticed earlier in the week but assumed it was a left over from my deresa rotting (I took them out anyway). So I have a feeling PMD took out my deresa and also got onto my Maxima.

When was the last time you changed it?

Are you using a skimmer?
The carbon has not been changed in a few months however every month I wash it out as it gets filled with detritus.
There is a skimmer on the tank as well. Both are in the first chamber of the back chambers.

Can you change the carbon? It’s exhausted. I think your tank needs new activated carbon. It will remove toxins and organics.

I’ll try to remember to grab some carbon tomorrow as I don’t have any currently.

Update, I’m currently doing the FW dip - it took longer than expected to get 24°C water however he is now sat in the water - not too happy as you’d expect.
He is slowly opening up though so fingers crossed. Do I need to do another FW dip after or should one be enough for this case of PMD?

Is it a bad sign with how retracted the mantle is?
IMG_8126.jpeg

20 minutes have ended so he is back in the tank as I didn’t want to risk another 10 minutes with him in the RO after seeing the mantle retraction.

How is it now?
He was still closed up but slowly reopening so hopefully he wasn’t too harmed.

My lights come on in a few minutes so I’ll be able to say for sure in an hour or so.

Did you use RO or RO/DI?

By any chance, are your Di filters still outputting 0ppm TDS? I’ve never lost a clam to FW dips.
It was RO/DI however I don’t make my own RO/DI, I get it from my LFS however I believe they are still putting out 0ppm TDS.

Coming back home with 2 new fish for this tank - original intention was only 1 of them but they have been a pair so I took both.
The clue is they’re a small fish that is good for Cyano and I have 5 of their relatives.

Well, just got home a few minutes ago… My clam is looking bad.
He still reacts to light so maybe there’s hope?

I feel bad as I think I did the RO bath too long and also didn’t think about the TDS of my LFS’s RO/DI filters.

But for the positive note, they both made it home safely. Aren’t they just gorgeous, Koumansetta rainfordi.

This is my second attempt with this genus as I had a Hectori in my max nano.
