An update on the Asterina stars, they’ve grown more.

this isn’t even all of them.

They’re nightmares haha, I now feed them to my wrasses and CBB in the large tank. They’re interesting to watch though, I’m sure one kartwheeled across the tank the other day, looked like grey tumbleweed haha.

I’m sorry you have to feed them to the dendros. I can’t see them hurting a fish but anything small that’s on their head they seem to eat.

I've had them before. Ended up being harmless to my tank. If you are into Harlequin Shrimp they will have a field day on them. However be prepared to find them more food when they eat all of those. I had a pair of Harlequin's and ended up having to stock up on live Blue Linkia starfish to keep them happy. They thrived, they bred too in my tank. But they will eat them.

Picked something up - Take your guesses! I have mentioned wanting one in the past however didn’t mention this specific species (I liked this one more than the other three that were in there). It’s also not a fish, instead an invert.

It was put into the tank a few minutes ago, left it for an hours drop acclimation. During that hour I measured the Parameters and some of them are rather high, possibly just due to the tank going through a WC earlier today.

What kind of clam did you get?

Many years ago, just prior to the demise of my SPS tank, I had some beautiful clams. Here they are spawning which helped lead to the tank downfall.

Tridacna deresa is what it was sold as, I’m aiming more for LPS so that this guy can take the nutrients needed without being competed TOO much. I just moved the flow so it wasn’t going to directly hit him (The part of his mantle it was hitting was closed up so I moved the flow and him). Here’s the photos I got, when I bought him he was the regular blue you’d see in crocea and maxima, didn’t expect this when I got home!

So far so good, the deresa hasn’t been nipped and is acclimating to the light. Also seems to react quite nicely to lighting, looking forward to how this guy is. Possibly leaning to a heavy clam and LPS tank depending on how I feel after this guy.

Hopefully I get some nicer photos of the mantle tomorrow with natural sunlight hitting it (It looked beautiful in the car when it was coming out, really was a shock to see it looking like a golden with the blue, iridescent trim after seeing a photo of it being turquoise/green from the LFS having it under white and blue lights).

Looks like it will be a beauty. Do you have sand in the tank? It will dig and attach within the sand bed and then will move around a bit on its own finding what flow it likes best.

Looks great. When it gets comfortable it will open up more and show it's mantle off better. I had a derasa years ago, loved the different colors in it

That’s beautiful, fingers crossed I can get this guy happy and growing so I can then possibly move to crocea and maxima. I don’t think I’ve seen one with similar colours this one has on the mantle but I wonder if that’s due to it being a young specimen.

Of all the clams I had, Maximas were my favorites. I liked how the mantle looked when opened up. My clown goby loved it too.

They’re beautiful, hopefully my Gobiodon acicularis takes to the clam as it grows. Also, what did you find easier? Deresa or maxima? I’m finding conflicting information but it seems there’s more that state deresa is easier.

They are all challenging, as they grow the calcium intake goes up as well. Derasa were always larger and thus higher calcium needs. The bright blue maximas required intense lighting to keep them happy.
