Very true. I more so meant grabbing a big chunk to give it that head start.
I could grab a hunk of cyano out of the old tank but I don't want the Aiptasia that comes with it...

One frag was from a new growth tip and the smaller frag was an older nub branch
I think it's really cool when you pop in and answer these types of questions, even jumping in on the dino discussion. Getting a chance to have your questions answered from someone that runs a large farm and has seen, dealt with, and overcome more issues than the average reefer will ever face has a lot of meaning to it. That's priceless insight! :D

Thanks Cody, figured I'd chime in. A lot of these nuisance outbreaks Dinos and algaes that seem to plague the hobby have popped up, especially when we boot a new tank or system, or oddly enough, every spring when the pollen counts are out of control. We've tried almost every methodology under the sun to avoid them (live rock, dry rock, "sterile" start ups, UV, No UV, etc) and all of them go through a period of instability when systems are first started, and the only real thing that resolves it long term is time, stability (once inbalances are corrected) and biodiversity. Quick and drastic measures to eradicate outbreaks in an immature large system usually just prolongs the instability.
