So a 3 weeks ago I had to get ACL repair on my knee. The surgery was rough as they had to remove scar tissue bulid up. For the past 3 weeks, my family has been helping me take care of my 40 gallon tank. When I left it, it had one clown, 2 cardinals and 1 firefish. Simple and easy. All fish got along with no fighting.

My parents decide that my tank looks boring and goes to the pet store and adds 2 yellow pink dotty backs. One didnt make it one week and now the remaining one is super aggressive has almost killed my firefish and now is starting on my bonded cardinals. I cant stand long enough to catch it due to still being sore and not weight bearing yet.

What can I do to help my cardinals and firefish survive 2/3 more weeks so that I will be able to stand long enough to kill the dang fish.

Would adding more rock or hiding places help, more feeding? Anything?

Sorry to hear about your surgery, wish you a speedy recovery. I would recommend you look into a fish trap of some sort, you can try to catch the fish and return it to the LFS (please don't kill the fish). Sometimes feeding more will help reduce aggression but you run the risk of throwing your water parameters out of whack. Re-arranging the aquascape can help some but that may require you standing. Also, adding un-cycled rock could also affect your water parameters.

Thank you for your response. I will look into a fish trap. I wont kill the fish, that was just my frustration talking. I know it's just acting normal so I cant really blame the fish. I put 100% of blame on my parents for getting fish without asking if it was ok. Just mad that I lost my urichin, feather duster and almost lost some fish over this one dang dotty back.

Thank you also for the well wishes. :)

Make a fish trap, it's very easy. Also, you can try tapeing a mirror too your tank, the fish will be more aggressive towards its own reflection and less aggressive towards the other fish.
