Hi everyone!
I own a 120 tank with few fish, anemones, shrimps, GSP, and a lot of pulsing xenia.
I've neglected the tank for the last few months and I'm starting to get back at it now.
During the neglection period I did do water changes once every ~2 weeks, but never monitored for parameters or anything like that.
Anemones mosylt doing ok, fish also. Xenia got out of hand, GSP grow all over lol.
No dosing of any kind, cleaning the skimmer every water change, carbon bag - sometimes.

Going back to maintaining it this is what I've found:
alkalinity - 6.4
Phosphate - (hanna ULR) - over range
Nitrates - 66.5
PH - 7.72 - 8.03
Red Cyano breakout that I control with Chemiclean.

What I did so far:
  • Added GFO and carbon reactors.
  • Bought All For Reef and dosed 20ml - testing alk few hours after dosing didn't change the alk at all.
  • A little bigger than normal water change.
  • I got the Phosphate to 0.48 (as of today) and going down.
  • Will check Nitrate tomorrow after a 20% water change
  • Added a lot of ceramic media to the sump in preparation for moving to a new tank.
  • Ordered an ICP test.
  • Changed all of my RODI system filters and DI resin.
  • Removed a lot of xenia from one of the rocks, a lot.

I don't want to change the parameters too fast since I don't want to hurt the live stock.
I use the red sea pro black bucket salt which mixes to 12 DKH.

My plan:
  • Doing few 20% water changes probably every day to get my alkalinity to around 7.8 and clearing the nitrates.
  • Start dosing the AFR everyday to maintain the alkalinity.
  • Changing to Tropic Marin Pro-Reef salt
  • Thought about installing a CO2 scrubber, but I open the windows every evening for many hours and there is a great air circulation from outside, so I don't think a CO2 scrubber will do anything useful.

I'm now in the process of resealing a Red Sea 750xxl, I want to move everything from the 120 to the new tank, I want to get the tank in good shape before I do so.

What do you guys think about this plan? Is there any advice you can give?

Thanks!

Thanks!
I’m kind of worried now about the water changes, since the water I make are 12 dkh, twice as much of my aquarium water!
Should I go slower with the water changes?
