Have you taken any PAR readings on the new lights?
Not yet. I will do some tests tomorrow.

I love how the packaging is all just thrown aside like a kid opening Christmas presents!
More like a tired and irritable marine biologist.. ;)

I want to get these tanks ready as soon as possible. But sometimes I forget the work it takes to setup six tanks and two sumps with more than 4000 litres of water(the first system) and I get frustrated.. :D
Now I will get some rest!

This part looked nice today! I keep removing corals from this tank but they've been growing so densely it still looks full :)

I'm thinking this might be the first tank to be emptied. We need the lights and other parts for the temporary tanks :)
But it'll probably take some time..

That is a very beautiful problem to have!

Congratulations on the temporary tanks.

Thank you! :)

More lights up and running today. Lasse is doing some PAR measurements, so he can post them later. But from the numbers I've seen so far the Atlantik V4 seems to be good stuff.

And world - we have a result

First tank - fixture cross the tank - left lowest corner of the tank corespond to 0 - 0 in chart

The PAR graph PAR taken on the bottom 500 mm depth. Y-axel shows PAR

Second tank - fixtures along the tank - left lowest corner of the tank corespond to 0 - 0 in chart

Discussion ended - @Sallstrom will redo the mount of fixtures in tank 1 tomorrow

We finally got the temperature up above 23 degrees today in the new system, so today we moved in some rocks from other tanks.
And a couple of test pilots :)

75% of the water is from our bamboo shark reef, so it's not a totally fresh start. And I threw in a bag with siporax from another tank a couple of days ago.
Today's numbers:
NO3: 2,5ppm
PO4: 0 (Hanna Low range)
KH: 7,7 dKH
Salinity: 35,3ppt
Temp; 23,3 (and raising!)

In other cases I might have worried about the low phosphate, but some of the rocks we put in today are from a high nutrient system(they've been in this high nutrients tank since 2005 :D). So I hope they will add some PO4.

We don't follow any strict methods starting up new tanks. We usually add old water and rocks and then add some animals at the time. If I can catch a suitable fish tomorrow, I'll add it to the new system.
It will be some algae along the way, but hopefully we have enough algae eaters to take care of them.

I think I will install a small skimmer next week :)

Lasse,

What PAR levels do you feel you need to sustain the coral in the tank?

This is PAR at the bottom - probably we will manage with a PAR around 175 - 200 at the bottom.

Thank you all for the support!

Unfortunately my laziness and lack of patience made me use two old Aquael Neoheaters instead of ordering and wait for proper titan heaters. Things were fine for a couple of days, then the heaters started a meltdown.. Both of them, but one more then the other.
IMG_7424.JPG

So now the whole room stinks. The water in the new system stinks. And the test corals are not exactly happy.
We added Triton detox today, plus a skimmer, and will start with activated carbon later this week. I hope we don't need to throw all 4000L of saltwater away because of this.
Luckily we haven't added more then a couple of live rocks and three test corals so far. So it could have been much worse! I'm mostly angry with myself for providing myself with more work, and not the fun kind of work :)

We've had problems with these heaters before and have taken them out of our other tanks because they made the residual current breakers(?) go off a lot. So this was just a stupid mistake from me.

I'll take samples and send to Triton lab tomorrow.

This was waiting for me when I came to work today :) It happened during the weekend.
