Over the last six days: Bayer dip - interceptor treatment - trim plug and scraped the bottom clean - filled a couple of gaps with superglue - second Bayer dip. I put them in the main system this morning.
I have them low in 300-350 par. Would likely move them up to the 450 range in a couple of weeks. They’re not much to look at color wise for now; we’ll see where they go. I’ll shoot some blues later this evening.

And for fun, here’s an online vendor edit, lol. One can only hope that it would color up like this some day.

Don’t get me wrong, I want all the colors, but honestly I’ll be super happy as long as these pieces get healthy long term and start growing. Healthy corals always look good. A big brown coral makes a great backdrop for all the multicolored corals I already have.
Absolutely agree! We gotta appreciate them all! Especially when they are healthy

Ha! It’s just a browned (tan) out import. But you’re right- some slick photography, a fancy name, and a bandsaw could make this piece sell within a day or two.

16 days since acquisition- both pieces are looking better each day.
The sleeper has started to show hues of red/purple mixed in with the brown and zooxanthellae have returned to where it was originally absent (no part looks bleached now). Daytime polyp extension is better each day and they appear to be a purple. Night time polyp extension is close to a normal healthy acro status.

The other piece that arrived healthier still looks good. The coralites are showing more fluorescent green which tells me that a color change may be on the horizon. The flesh is starting to show more red in real life. The polyps are showing pink/red/purple and have pretty good extension. I’m now seeing both basal and terminal growth on throw colony which, is awesome.
Great Acros! Lovely pictures!! They love a very nice alternate water movement and stronger lights with proper spectrum. They can develop amazing pigments under meal halides! Lucky boys!

One thing I’ve been doing with these wild pieces is upping the frequency of spot feeding at night (ultimately it becomes broadcast feeding the second I turn the pumps back on, but I like to feel like I’m giving extra TLC, ha). Wild coral seem to take longer to show daytime polyp extension so I ASSUME they’re not using photosynthesis for as high a percentage of nutrition as my long term captive corals, but I have ZERO evidence to show it’s not utter nonsense. But I do it and it make me feel good, so there’s that. I recently heard one of the more popular reefing podcasts make reference to it as well so that reaffirmed my actions.
Ive always been a sucker for golden corallites, but dang… none have ever been as gold as the one you have!
