Hi all,

I'm about to start aquascaping my tank. Should I put a fine layer of sand down first or is it best to put the rock directly on the glass?
I plan on having 3.5"-4" of sand when done but thinking of a 1/4" or less layer of sand before placing the rock.
I plan on having sand sifters in the tank.

TIA

You do realize that a deep sand bed can have issues over time?

1 1/12 to 2" is plenty for wrasses and sand sifters, and thin enough that you don't get those anoxic regions that can nuke your tank.

And yes, rocks directly on the glass, specially with sand sifters in the tank.
