New small snowflake eel. Will he be okay with a hitch hiker mantis small size? They are the only things in a 20 gallon. The eel is small.

Yes, a hitchiker mantis is likely a green mantis and will never grow large enough to threaten a snowflake eel, or almost any other fish for that matter. It will however pick off small snails and crabs for fun or food.

Thank you, I need to check to see that he is green then. I have only caught a quick glimpse of him and he looked really dark.
I am glad to know the eel is in no danger.

My experience with snowflakes is that the danger is the other way around. I doubt that it will be long before the eel finds and eats the shrimp. I've never had a shrimp make it past the first night with the (very well fed) eel in the tank.

They love shrimps… mine loves her shrimp meals! I wouldnt try a shrimp with her at all. My other two eels yes, both of them are fang tooth eels and love fish. They hate shrimp lol but snowflakes eat shrimp like crazy!

They love shrimps…
There was a fairly good sized pistol shrimp in my tank when the snowflake went in. The shrimp had been there for a couple of months and had a pretty well established cave.

The eel hit the water, did one lap of the tank, went straight into the shrimp cave and started writhing around as it ate the shrimp. All this in less than 60 seconds. I had been fattening the eel up for a month in a separate observation tank, but no matter!

I do not care if the eel eats the mantis. My eel is small. The mantis maybe an inch. As for the size of the tank the eel has a lot of room in this tank. When it outgrows it I will re-home him.
Yes, he loves shrimp. I gave him a really tiny piece of fresh dead shrimp (bait) and he gobbled up barely able to get it all in his tiny mouth.
I will not be putting anything I don't want him to eat in the tank with him. If he gets a friend they will have to be to big for him to eat.
