Unsure of where to post within a forum..

What snails are recommended for tanks? As a good CUC.

What snails eat hair algae?

I have been trying to find more trochus snails as they can flip themselves over, but I haven't found any the last few months. I have 4 and they basically stay on the back of my tank.

I have MAYBE 6-8 bumble snails (they can flip themselves too) but yes they are TINY... and my pink speckled goby likes to pile them by his spot so I feel like they don't really accomplish much.

A bit of history here, I use to have all kinds of snails, margarita, nerite, astrea, but they'd all fall down the back of the tank and I stopped flipping then over everyday. That's why I look for ones that can flip themselves. I had a whole snail shell graveyard, granted my hermits have taken over a lot of them.

About a week ago I got a single margarita snail, he's been everywhere and leaving his marks on the front glass, my history of snails they barely touch the front. Did I get lucky with this tiny baby margarita or did I fluke out with the others?

I also picked up a turbo snail (with the margarita) and though he has made a round around some rocks, he's on the back of the tank too.

I personally have a weird Obsession with snails. I love them.

Nitrites, small, the size of a pea, and get into many crevices and glass.
Very resilient little guys, good cleaners.
Don’t seem to get picked off.
My nitrites were about the size of a nickel an up! Pretty big. My bumble are the size of pea though!

Trochus are the best IME but urchins are way better at eating hair algae
I've been eyeballing urchins, buy I don't think I have enough algae to get one.

I HAD hair algae on a single mushroom frag that no one was touching, but yesterday took some big chunks of hair algae away. I was trying to manage that one tiny spot of hair algae.

Trochus and turbos are my go to but ninja stars are good. I to have bumblebees, ceriths , conchs and nassarius. The best algae eater in my tank, hands down, is my tuxedo urchin.
I don't believe I have enough algae for an urchin. But I've been looking at them!!

Trochus/turbo snails are great for glass and general cleaning.
Ring cowries are good for rocks/dinos; spiny astrea are good for rocks.
Cerith and nassarius snails are good for your sand bed.
Oh awesome cheat sheet! Thank you!!!!

When I am low on algae I rubber band a piece of nori to a rock or throw in an algae wafer for my tuxedo urchin and the other cuc.

I've heard they eat a lot? That's my only concern.

They are constantly eating, a plus, but I don’t have to add supplemental feeding often . A handful of times in 21 months.
