Skimmer question

Hey everyone I’ve been thinking about replacing my skimmer on my new system but want to get everyone’s opinion first. I have a sca 50 gal with 2 shrimp a lawnmower blenny and some snails and crabs. I don’t really feed the tank as the blenny has plenty of alage to eat in the tank. My problem is the last month or so my skimmer struggles to pull any good skimmate. It is often light and watery no matter how I dial it in to skim dry or wet it’s always the same color. There are also times it’s not skimming anything. I would think it should be skimming darker crap as I’m dosing vibrant for an alage problem I’m having. Tank is only 3 months hold. Should I look into other options or wait until bioload is heavier and sees what it pulls? Btw it’s a skimz sn123 monster skimmer

I'd wait until you have a larger bio load. Also, I know there's algae in the tank but make sure you get other nutrition to that blenny.

I will feed about 1 a week p.e mysis but he never really seems interested

Have you pulled the skimmer gave it a vinegar bath and thorough cleaning?
Also for the body try small pellets or flakes .

Sounds like there's nothing for the skimmer to really pull out if you only have the one blenny and feed him once a week.

Also tanks only 3 months old... new tank, minimal livestock, minimal feeding. Your algae should go away with water changes.
And the skimmer.is basically skimming what it can. Over time as you stock the tank.the skimmate will thicken and darken but til.then be patient.

Like everyone has said, I don't think your bio load is enough to cause the skimmer to pull the thick and nasties.

Just for reference I had a 60 with 2 damsels, tomini tang, two snowflake clowns, 1 Picasso clown, coral beauty, and a melanurus wrasse. Also had a crap ton of snails and crabs. I had just started to get dark thick skim on my Skimz skimmer.
