I added a new reef octopus skimmer on my 90 gallon a few months ago. My question is I have it set and it seems to do well, but at times it will take 4 or 5 days to fill half way then it might fill up and over flow in one day. Sometimes the bubble level will drop down for a day or two and it does not do anything. Any hints or sugestions?

Is the water level in the sump consistent? Do you feed unwashed PE Mysis?

Water level never changes where the skimmer is. I know when I feed it can mess with the skimmer, but this happens when I have not fed for days.

It won't skim the same all the time, some days it will clean up better than others, some days the system is dirtier I should say.

It sounds like its running idle due to lack of nutrients. Its skimming everything out and has nothing to skim until it builds back up. This is common with skimmers that are too large for the system.

Thanks for the input. Sounds like we have it figured out.
