We received a McCosker’s wrasse on Friday and he hasn’t looked well since we got him. Barely swimming in his isolation chamber, often swimming vertically (straight and down), and today, lots of laying on his back. He hasn’t eaten since yesterday. Close inspection today showed what looked like small white spots on him (see photos). We’ve removed him and his behavior is the same.

We’re concerned our main tank is now compromised. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Tank looks really new. What are your parameters? A full tank shot may help also.
Tank has been online since Feb/Mar. We had an ich outbreak early on, quarantined our two clowns (all we had at the time), did a lengthy fallow period, etc. Have been slowly adding stock since then. We currently have two clowns, one McCosker’s, an adorned wrasse, two firefish, a lawnmower blenny, and a yellow tang.

80g IM AIO
Salinity: 1.024
Nitrates: 1-2ppm
Nitrites: 0ppm
Ammonia: 0ppm

Fish has crypyocaryon and Seems to be in distress. It need to be relocated to a treatment tank as acclimation box will allow disease to spread. These fish can be tricky to treat as some dont tolerate copper well but you can safely treat with coppersafe or chloroquine phosphate. With coppersafe assure to maintain good water quality and added aeration with air stone. Treat with coppersafe at 2.25 for a FULL 30 days (do not interrupt this 30 day period) monitored by a reliable Copper Test kit such as Hanna Brand- No API brand. Also monitor Ammonia levels while in quarantine with a reliable test kit and add aeration during treatment using an air stone. other fish have been exposed and too should be treated.
The display tank will have to be kept fishless (FALLOW) for 6-8 weeks to assure the existing parasites go through their life cycle without a host fish and die off and with occupants exposed, they too should go into quarantine

Thanks very much for the detailed response. Sadly we went through these exact protocols earlier this year when the two clowns (our first two fish) came home from our local store with ich. All of the livestock we’ve purchased since have come from Dr. Reef and we’ve trusted their QT. This is disappointing to say the least.

Time to break out the QT tank. Thanks again for taking a look and sharing your advice and experience.

I would contact Dr Reef. It looks like cryptocaryon to me as well, but his protocol is pretty good at clearing fish of ich prior to shipping…..
