12 days ago, I got a small Blue Gigantea from a friend. He had the Gigantea for several weeks and it was doing well. He decided to concentrate on Magnifica instead and so he sends this Gigantea to me. Taken it from the rock, the foot was injured. My friend observed the Gigantea for a few days until it totally healed and then send the anemone to me.

On arrival (7/10/2019), he did not look well. I placed him in my office tank. He attached initially but let go overnight and the next morning was tumbling on the sand. Fortunately, the tank circulation decreased at night per the nigh protocol so he did not get chewed up by the PH. I took him out and bring him home for treatment (7/11/2019) with Ciprofloxacin.

Below are pictures of the anemone before, during and after treatment. He is doing well now but is denuded of tentacles. Only about 1/3 of the oral plate is covered with tentacle, the rest is denuded and void of tentacles. He is doing well at this time. Even in this poor shape, he started to sow the color of an nice Gigantea he have the potential to be. I hope I will be able to save him and bring him to his full glories

Arrival all deflated

Ciprofloxacin 250mg per 10 gal
Keep us updated on how it does. I just went through this with a sick mag, as well as a sick bubble that went through a powerhead and was left to die in the corner of a nasty tank at an LFS I will never visit again, both at the same dosage. Both are doing well and the bubble is finally growing tentacles back.

Is this medicine and dose standard for any anemone that is ill. I have a bta that I’ve had for 3 months. Never been well. After a month he finally attached but had never inflated, never had any tentacle inflation, Doesn’t eat etc. I may try this medication. How long is treatment? Do you only add it once? Do you change water at any point during treatment? Thanks and congrats on hopefully saving that guy!

@A-dawg
When I wrote the protocol, the dose of 250 mg/10 gal will give approximate the therapeutic level we see in our blood stream when we take Cipro orally.

@Eagle_Steve
I will try to keep this thread up until he is well or go to the reef in the sky

It seems to be standard. It was geared mostly towards gigs I believe initially and has been successful for mags and btas as well. I have used it on bta's, but have not seen anyone use it for ltas or h. crispa/malu. There is a sticky at the top of this subforum by Amoo with the details that also includes Minh's info as well. Minh (OrionN) is the one who started it all I believe.

The treatment is at least 7 days iirc, up to ten days. I believe it is only successful once per specimen. And you need to do 100% water change and dose appropriate amount everyday of the treatment.

You should start your own thread with tanks details etc about your bta. More details +pics help.

Feed my Blue Gigantea this evening. I took pictures as he chow down on the salmon.
I help him a little by put tow pieces right nest to his mouth.

Today is about 10 days post treatment, and about 3 weeks since I got him. I can say that he is well on his way getting well. He just ate a small piece of Mahi-Mahi we caught a few weeks ago in the Gulf of Mexico.
