I love sea urchins, they are a unique creature to keep in a tank. I am wanting to see pictures of your urchins, experiences you have had with them or overall opinions on urchins!!

As far as overall opinion based on what's happened with reefs in the Caribbean since the urchin die off in '83 I'd say they are essential for any reef ecosystem, captive or wild. As far as my experiences, some can be be rather threatning or quite flamboyant.

This was my white pincushion urchin I had named Barlow after the Salems lot vampire. He used to come to the top of the water and wait until i put a sheet of nori on him and he would then eat it. I’m thinking about getting a tattoo to remember him.

Love mine. This is my first one. A bit of a daredevil. It did get stuck in a bottle trap once. I tried to get it out, but that was obviously not going to work, so I propped up the back of the bottle and the gravity helped it slide out on its own.

Tell more, what happened? I have a pincushion and was thinking of adding a pencil when I decide to set up the new tank.
They weren't terrible. But the other urchin types that I've had were better, which was what I meant - I would get different urchins rather than pencils next time.
They did not seem to do very much on the filamentous algae that my tank produces, and I saw them on corals and occasionally seemed to nibble them.
( a tiny bit of coral nibbling can be excused for a good algae eater, but in my tank they were not.)
