I'm going to be making a mesh top and need some ideas how to get the power head cords under it.
Making a cut out seems janky but cutting out some of the frame might make it weak.

Show me how you did yours.

I don't have pics of mine, but what I did was use the plastic piece that comes with glass lids, and cut it to size around anything that needed it.

My tank is euro braced so I used small rubber feet to lift the top just enough for the wavemaker cords to slip under.

Nice.
My planet tank has a rim with a 4" section of glass at each end as a brace. That might work.
I was thinking making it a little small, tank 60", making it say, 57". Then I can slide it to one side for feeding and what not. I won't have to remove the cover daily. The rubber feet would raise it just enough for power cords and no fish jumpers.
Perfect.

That is power management but how do they get under the top?
I like those BTW.
They are just stick on thingie with an adhesive back. I just turned off the pumps and hit the dry spot with an alcohol pad; toxic perhaps but oh well, it’s above the waterline. I run the cables until I get to a light bracket cutout, it’s enough space/play to squeeze a wire through

My tank is only 48 but I was worried 1 large cover would be annoying, so I made 3 separate sections. I also added feeding ports to 2 of them. I like how it turned out. I have a wrasse war going on right now that spooks my fire fish and I have heard it bounce off the cover. Its just small square rubber feet from home depot. They are about 1/2" high. Just enough for the cable to pass under. The screen frame is from home depot too. While aluminum, the saltwater is discoloring it. They do sell black at HD but they were sold out when I was setting up the tank and didn't want to wait.

I did buy the home depot screen kit and the mesh from Amazon.

If I make 2 screens and but them up, I am worried I'll get a shadow. The top is braced but only the rim. I will eventually add a food port.

I wonder if I can clear coat the aluminum? If be worried about flaking tho...
