It's time for me to down size. I never really liked the big tank anyways. I have a 80 Marineland Bowfront setup that originally was my brothers but had to be moved to my place when he was in the process of moving/having new house built.

The tank ended up staying with me and I no longer want to mess with it. There are only 2 fish in there. A single clown and a pigmy angel fish. I'm thinkin' of downsizing to somethin like a 28 nano cube or maybe a standard 29 gal. just to keep those 2 fish.

What am I lookin' at here? I figure I will go with a new sand bed but use what rock I can from the 80 (over 100lbs). Do about 50/50 water? Fresh saltwater and saltwater from the 80? How long do you think I will have to wait before I can move the fish and corals to the new tank?

And what about a fish trap to catch the fish? I think I can get the clown no problem when feeding but the angel, I would have to remove all the rock. Hopin' to not have to do that.

Would appreciate any advice.

Steve

Your on the right track. I would say you can put everything in there right away. Or till the tank clears up from the new sand bed gettin mixed up from water added.

Good luck.

If you go with dry sand (not "live") and then add a cup or 2 of your own sandbed you should be good to go. But if you use all new live sand there will be a slight mini cycle. The more rock you put in there the faster the cycle will be.

Yea, I was just gonna do dry sand. I figured the rock would seed it but I can get some sand from the 80 as well to seed so that's no problem.

Now the fun part is gettin' this started so I can get this tank out of here.

Thanks for the help,
Steve
