This 15 gallon nano is 2 months old. I only had a pair of clowns for a little over a month and then I put in my Duncan and pipe organ because they looked unhappy in my other tank. The coral actually started improving surprisingly to me and all was seemingly well until last night. Last night, the clowns were at the top of the water in the corner by the pump and I first thought oh no lack of oxygen, did I forget to turn the pump back on? The pump was on, so I turned it off to feed them and they went away from the corner so I kind of just forgot about it thinking everything was back to normal. This morning I woke up and the fish were both dead on the bottom in that same corner. Params seem OK to me, so could it have been something to do with this algae? Also, I would like advice on the algae. I just got through a cyano takeover in my 160 gal with chemo clean and lots of siphoning. After all that my Duncan and pipe organ closed up and a month later we’re still closed so I decided to throw them in the nano….where like I said, in about 5 to 7 days they started magically opening, again to my surprise. Plz help

ALK 7
Temp: 79.6
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate between 0 and 5 (API)

Just to confirm, when you woke up was the pump still on? I apologize I'm not following the train of thought.
Is this tank cycled? I know you said two months, but curious.
Also. what's your salinity? Are you using RO w/ salt? Tap with Prime?
*Edit * Also what's your temp read? If the pump was off, and your heater is in the back, temp could be off.

That is cyanobacteria, not algae, but will not have any affect on the fish or coral.
The alk of 7 is likely what bothered your corals, its much lower than 'average', so they might have taken time to acclimate .
A full tank pic will help.
Pumps should always be running, and the water surface should always be agitated to help oxygenate the water.

Sorry to be confusing! Yes cycled. 1.025 Always prime with my water changes. Pump was NEVER OFF (only when I went to feed them and then turned it back on). Yes it’s RO H2O

Yes the cyano I know ‍ that’s why I mentioned in the post. I am clear on what that is and I hate it. I’m not sure what action to take as far as the Cyano in this nano since my theory is that the Chemi clean ticked off the two I transferred to this nano after the Cyano outbreak in the other tank. I was talking about the green long flow looking stuff. I haven’t had time to research but my guess is Hair algae? I’ve heard of it but again haven’t had time to research on that one.

Pumps WERE ALWAYS ON. (Until I fed and then promptly turned back on)

Sounds really silly, but I am happy with these corals because they are so much better than they were in the previous Tank. My post is mostly asking about the clowns. Ideas?

Also, from what I know… 7alk would maybe bother corals…but clowns?!

What is the prime being used for. If you are using RO water there is no chlorine and no use for Prime.

The green wire like stuff is macro algae of some kind.

Is there a skimmer?
Is there surface agitation?

Sounds like low oxygen event to me.

Oh sorry I forgot the full tank pic. I’ll take one now. Although that picture was pretty much the full tank.

Full tank pic added! Sorry it looks different because the first pick still have the dead fish in the corner and I had to move the rocks around a bit to get in there and fish them out.

I always add prime for every water change just for the bacteria. I’m going to see if it will let me post a video here for you so you can see the agitation and give me your opinion.

Prime is not bacteria. It is a chlorine neutralizer that they try to say also neutralizes ammonia (it doesn't).

You have a snail out of the water as well, so maybe something is off.

Surface agitation is not bad, but is there a skimmer or anywhere that the water is getting aerated?

No - that particular green macro algae is not likely what you want in the tank. I would pluck it. It is not harmful, but will become a nuisance to control.

Were the fish quarantined? You had them for a month? Behavior until yesterday? Disease can not be ruled out.

Well, I almost just killed my snail. I’m the one that accidentally pushed him out of the water quickly for the video with the magnetic scraper. He was taking a ride.

Wow I’ve never heard that about Prime. So am I wasting a ton of money using it every time I do water changes? Lol.

No skimmer in the nano.

Correct I’ve had them for about a month.. a little over. They were cheap hot buys, so I threw them in the tank since nothing else was in there at the time. I also have a picture of them dead if you think that would be helpful. up until yesterday, like I posted, before I fed them, I noticed them up in the corner and assumed lack of O2…. but then after I saw my pump was in fact on, turned it off quickly to feed them, and they moved away from the corner, and then immediately turned it back on. That is the only weird behavior noticed.

@Jay Hemdal - very little to go on here. Can you take a quick look?
Also want to add thank you so much for trying to help out here. I am literally stumped started joking with myself. Is this just a case of Romeo and Juliet? Joking but so weird they died within the same hours.

I am not a disease expert, but Jay and others may be able to help.

Yes photos with white light of the dead fish may be of help.
