After having my tank for about 8 months now I've decided to start dosing. I stopped by my local store today and picked up Seachem fusion parts 1 and 2, and test kits for calcium and alkalinity. after much research I am still confused as to how I should start. I've seen people say that you need to dose both parts equally as it can cause an inbalance in the tank? I'm honestly not sure where to start, if someone could provide me a simple guideline to follow in order for me to get my levels straight it would be greatly appreciated.

First, age is not a factor in determining when to start dosing. What is your alk and calcium consumption? It sounds like you didn’t even have test kits until you decided to start dosing today. That’s backwards. You need to test daily for a few days to determine how much your tank consumes. Then you dose enough to compensate for the consumption.

So, start testing alk every day, twice/day if possible. Do this for 3-5 days and you will find out how much your tank uses per day. Then calculate the dose volume of product needed to add that much per day to keep it stable. The bottle has instructions for how to calculate this volume.

Unfortunately, I’d venture to guess you won’t find very much consumption because if you were, you’d probably be losing corals the way you’ve been flying blind so far. So you might be hanging onto those bottles for a while longer.
