Ocean marathon day on Nat Geo for those being lazy or looking for background noise to their maintenance day.

Did anyone know there’s a Hasselhoff crab named after the one and only? Named for its ultra hairy chest... made me laugh ;Joyful

Thanks for the heads-up and the things you learn on R2R!

Theres a guy at work that calls me Hasselhoff... Haselden, Hasselhoff... not even pronounced the same. Its pronounced with a z! Like Hazel-den, but with an S!

I can imagine that little fire that burns up your spine whenever he says it too.

30g water change on tap for today. Been working on dialing in Alk. Tested last weekend after a 20g water change and found it at 7.3. This was after dosing for a few days knowing it was low but without an actual number so I expect I was down near 6 prior to the correction. Have it up to 7.7 now and holding fairly steady dosing 7ml of Triton daily.

Tested Nitrate and Phosphate yesterday and my god they were sky high. Nitrate’s around 30ppm and Phosphate read as high as the Hanna ULR reads at 200ppb. That means we are at .61 PO4 at a minimum.

The fuge is growing Chaeto like crazy but can’t seem to keep up. I’m beginning to wonder if the lack of a sand bed is hurting me here. I suspect it is. I’m also considering upgrading my skimmer to something more properly sized. The Nyos 120 is underrated for this size system and my stocking load but I was hopeful that it would suffice as secondary filtration to the chaeto bed. Doesn’t seem to be working for me.

Going to dose some Nopox over the next few weeks to try and reel in Nitrates some and give the fuge some help.

Otherwise all is well! Fish all healthy and happy. LPS all doing well and I even have a couple of happy acro’s with these high numbers but some have definitely struggled.

Today’s plan.

30g water change.
Cut back the Chaeto in the fuge.
Debate skimmer options.
Debate adding a traditional sand bed.

Couple pics since thats what we really care about.

Will changing to a longer photoperiod on your fuge light help bring down those excess nutrients?
That’s actually a great idea. I had forgotten I backed it off to a 14 hour on period a couple months back. Just bumped it 2 hours on either end to 18 hours. Thx for that reminder.

Thanks Fuds! It’s got me baffled to some degree... most of what I’ve seen from this system so far has been the total opposite of what’s considered normal. I won’t complain, just look to improve where I can.

The other 1/2 of that torch is now sending out some of the longest sweepers it ever has. Somewhere in the area of 10". It was stinging my pavona so I had to move the pavona back a couple inches. Now the torch is stretching to reach it again....
