If you dont have a cover over the top of your tank, then you are throwing your money away. Wrasses will jump out, it's just a matter of time, but guaranteed they will.
I have well over 20 fairies and flashers now and have lost many in the past due to poor cover designs.
Even if there is a half inch hole in the top, they will eventually get out.

Yes, a cover is a must with wrasses. Just as an example I was feeding last night and had my mesh cover slid back 2" to fit the baster in the tank. The halides shut off which caused the fish to freak a bit and out jumped a wrasse which hit me and then landed on the stool I was standing on. I quickly scooped him up and tossed him back in ... darn fish!

Egg crate has too large of holes to keep the wrasses in.
Glass covers prohibits gas exchange , and creates unwanted heat. plus you have to always clean it , or it cuts down the light.
Your best bet is the mesh top. Very easy to build and very inexpensive.

Read this, it shows you all you need to make your own.

The mesh has no effect on the light and it is UV rated so metal halides will not hurt it. It is truely your best way to keep wrasses.
