Scoly Prices

So the one I’m mainly interested in is the yellower one. Even under whites (I didn’t get a pic unfortunately) it’s still quite yellow and doesn’t appear bleached. It is receded some but it was just labeled as western Aussie scoly. So I’m curious what you think a fair price is for each and specifically the yellowish one. Once I get a few replies, I’ll post the LFS prices. I did not buy as I’m going on vacation soon but if it’s still there after, I may have to go back and grab it. They’ve had them a couple weeks already.

That said I am seeing prices on similar (yellow) specimens from 250-700 dollars.

Bottom left - War paints are typically 250ish online

Middle - The yellow smaller one - I can see a price mark up due to color, but then the downside is it’s smaller. I would guess 250-300

Top right I would say 100

Top left - I would say 300-350

On Scoly’s as soon as there’s damage around the outside, it’s going to continue to recede.

So I would not buy it.

All average to slightly above average prices online, expected markup for a LFS to stay in business. Nothing to me is a rip off. Decent prices. Except that damaged one.

IMO the one to get out of the four is the yellow one for 199

I was just going to say, after you get back you can always make an offer. The prices seem average to me. And the top left one looks pretty big

They absolutely will recover if they are injured. They just need to be fed an easily digestible food continually. They need the extra proteins and lipids to regenerate new flesh.

The top left is about 4 inches or so.

I was thinking, if it’s still there, I’d feed it a reefroid slurry and maybe some mysis.

They can recover, but not always.
I just don’t gamble with this coral.

It’s not just small damage but receding the same all around.

I’d expect that one to continue.

Sooo, I have had a ton of success with these corals in my nano I have three of them currently in my 20 gallon Waterbox tank that have been there for several years (ranging from 5-7 years) now…War Paint, Bleeding Apple, and a Reverse Bleeding Apple.
I have found them to be a very easy and resilient coral under good stable water conditions, good flow, and proper lighting.
Case in point: About 6 months ago I had an unfortunate accident where my lobo became dislodged from where it was mounted and fell on top of one of my scolys. It had been glued in its location for years but apparently somehow the glue gave way. I discovered this once I came home from work that evening. The scoly was half destroyed, half its mouth was gone, and it was very very damaged. I cannot even begin to describe how damaged this guy was….I didn’t move or change anything with the scoly. I just removed the lobo from on top of it, remounted it, the lobo was mad but fine and had NO damage. I was absolutely heartbroken and thought for sure that scoly was a goner…but since there was a still a little bit of good flesh there and half a mouth I let it be and continued to keep my water parameters stable, and just wait to see if the scoly recovered. Six months later you can’t even tell that the damage ever occurred. Scoly’s love my tank, the Reverse Bleeding Apple I got from Unique Corals on sale over 5+ years ago as a tiny less than 2” Specimen, is absolutely huge!! It can get when fully open over 6” all the way around….the bleeding apple, has actually been in my tank since very early on, and has been though all my beginner mistakes and issues when I was newer to nano reef keeping. I have found that these guys in my experience when given proper water conditions and lighting can and do recover fairly easily in most circumstances, are very resilient, and are a fairly easy to keep coral, with a huge amount of color…..I have found that mine like more flow than you’d think!!

Bleeding Apple was bought in 2017 from my LFS

Reverse Bleeding Apple was purchased in 2019 from Unique Corals as a 2” specimen, it was just a little smaller than 2” when it arrived.

War Paint is the newest one of the group and was purchased in 2022…got this one from someone off Reef2Reef he actually has a name, William Wallace!! (this is the one that got damaged by the aforementioned lobo falling incident approximately 6 months ago.

These were taken today when I added the little trachy in the back with my iPhone so not the greatest pictures but I may try again tomorrow. Lights are in acclimation mode since I just added the little trachy today. So this is them not as huge as they can get.

Thank you. I just love them sooo much. One of my all time favorite corals.
Wow!! It’s crazy, I literally do nothing special with them!! I don’t even feed them other than when I feed the tank. I didn’t even attempt to feed the William Wallace aka the War Paint when it was damaged. He was LITERALLY half gone!!
These guys all do usually open and grab some stuff when I do feed the tank. But that is all, just stable parameters and AI Prime 16HD light on a 20 Gallon Waterbox. 2 water changes a month every other week about 5 gallons.
I’m finally upgrading my tank to a 200XL and I’m hoping that they will be as happy in there as they are in my 20!!
