I bought this green scoly coral for 40$. Any info on how to get it back healthy? It’s place in the sand bed with medium flow(not direct) and low light.

If algae grows on that exposed skeleton it will greatly impact the healing process. Use a paintbrush and hydrogen peroxide and clean that area. Try not to get any on the coral itself.

Then place in low light and flow. Preferably with the skeletal part in the darkest / most indirect area of light.

Then the key will be feeding meaty foods at night, 3x a week. You should see feeding tentacles at night if it’s ready to feed. It will also eat flake, pellet, and frozen mysis and small krill. I find they don’t really like powdered foods but they are all different and it might work for you. Worth trying. Good thing is these guys have a really good feeding response. If they like the food they will pull it in almost right away

After it’s healed you can move back to medium flow and low to medium light

There’s also some orange squishy like sponge on the side it’s retracting not sure if that’s anything serious?

The outer shell is completely skeletal. It wouldn’t even be noticed by the scoly until the sponge spreads to the mantle where the flesh attempts to come out. I would say it’s not serious but a potential irritant.

It should peel off. If you can peel it off and it’s in decent shape you can attach to another rock or out in a sump filtration area.

If it doesn’t peel off easily and you wish to remove it, it could be scraped off, a stiff nylon brush should do it

If it was me…,if the scoly was healthy I would wait and watch to see if it became a problem caused an issue. If the scoly was receded and needing recovery, I would remove it just because we don’t need any setbacks in the healing process
