I found the SBB community pretty quickly after joining reef2reef. It’s incredible how awesome it is here. There is certainly nothing else like it on reef2reef. A place where the vendor is providing amazing products and regularly hooking up people with free and heavily discounted items while still maintaining a solid business. I haven’t seen anywhere else where people hang out for weeks and weeks after a sale to help each other out or just talk about life stuff. Watching people here lend out $400 par meters to people they barely know, give away $300 torches, or pass on free money just because they think someone else could benefit from it more than them at the current time, it’s pretty humbling. Thank you all for the patience and advice you’ve given me as I learn and thank you @SBB Corals for hooking me up right from the beginning. What a great community to be part of.

If I remember correctly, this sticker-number game was not promoted as part of the last sale at all. It was just a bonus added after the sale was completed to hook people up with well over $1000 worth of stuff. That’s pretty amazing.

Out of curiosity, why do you acclimate to light? Is your PAR so high that your tank would be drastically different than where they came from?

To elaborate, those frags are coming from maybe 200 PAR, which is where they were farmed, so does dropping them in a 75 PAR area and slowly working them up to the 250 PAR you might put them in help or just cause more stress?
I think there is inherent stress from a new system/parameters, so not blasting them with light helps that adjustment.

I do think certain types of acros don't receive enough light in general so they don't mind that drastic change. I don't light acclimate milli or tenuis, I just drop them in at the top. A good example is I got a tenuis from local place that stores them in about 150 par. I just threw it on my top rack at 450 par and don't think twice. I tried to do a quick acclimation for a speciosa and then threw it on the top rack and it bleached completely.

Fwiw I've never acclimated a single coral, stick them where they want to go (though I check par and flow first) and just let them do their thing. Some color down before coming back but I have lost very few overall. I have quite a few speciosa too and never had any issues doing it this way. I think moving them around and all that just lengthens the process

From you more experienced people, can I get a general idea of how long you’ve seen it take for coral to adapt to higher lighting? I know it’s going to vary, but have you seen a coral look good, move it to higher light and then see it struggle and then adapt? Is it normally like a week or a month like process?

1 million percent. @SBB Corals is awesome. The threads are the best people and place to be, that is also why @CodyBot hangs out here in between him doing work for other vendors. He knows this is the best group of reefers =)

I'm similar to @pandaparties on this one - I don't have super high PAR though.

I run acros around 400, gonis at 100 and euphillia around 150. Acros start to color back up for me around a month sometimes more
