Did you say 40 fish?I’m running the REEFMAT 1200 on a 132G RSR500P, goes through about 100cm daily on a 35m new roll so about 35-40 days. I have heavy (40) fish load for a start.
Yes… don’t flame me for it.Did you say 40 fish?
Is this the one that offers reusable fleece? And I have a Smart Roller Mat from Reef Factory. I have the M version, water flow at 8000lph and 700l of circulation. Medium stocking, very fine sand on the bottom.
I used about 20m of non-woven fabric since beggining od December. The water is clear as crystal, the salinity hasn't changed and I now only look in the sump once every 3 weeks to pour out the farts from the skimmer cup.
The roll of fleece itself is 40m long, at 20cm wide it should theoretically last for 3 months.
It works flawlessly, never jammed. Replacing the roll seems child's play, just unscrew one plastic screw, remove the basket and put the new one on.
It takes up very little space, the dimensions are only 12x25cm and I think it is very efficient at the same time.
I control the rollers and the amount of nonwoven fabric in the Smart Reef app.
I’m looking at adding a roller mat to my sump. I have a 90 gallon display with a 40 gallon sump. The return chamber is 12x18 with a water height of 12”. But I do have a Reef Octopus Elite 150int 6in skimmer in that section. Which leaves me with about 8”x12” of space to fit a roller mat. I have a plastic container I user floss in it as a filter currently. So I need something i can mount on the side or free standing.
What brands should I stay away from and what is recommended?
What did you have to do to make the reefmat fit 1" PVC?The ReefMat arrived Saturday. I had to make the intake fit since I have 1” pipe. Pretty much no room in the section with the skimmer, but it’s in. I placed an order for 4 refills from a different supplier that had it in stock.
I turned off the skimmer today and will see if I even need it as I am now running a refugium which I didn’t before. Possibly run skimmerless. It’s a 90 gallon, not heavily stocked with a 40 gallon sump. Nothing special. Getting corals back to what they used to be. Went months without a water change or dosing, so I now have to kinda start over.
The tank is in wall. So it, along with the sump are in a storage room where it doesn’t need to look pretty, just functional.
I tried socks, in my opinion it is just a part of the hobby that I rather not have to do every few days, it is 100% me being lazy and wanting that convenience. Having said that, I don’t think I’ll start a tank without one again, it is one less thing to worry about for me which allows me to enjoy my tank more and clean certain things lessWe waste a lot of money in this hobby and pay high prices for equipment. So when someone wants to install a roller mat system, I always wonder why, when for 29 cents, you can use a piece of white felt from the hobby store that is just as effective.
Granted, it isn't automated. But how much effort does it take to change out a piece of felt on a weekly basis?
Which mat roller and size of tank?Yes, when I started my new tank 3 months ago I thought “no skimmer, no mechanical filtration, KISS with socks and media baskets”. Soon weakened and now have skimmer, reef mat and crystal clear water. Each roll should last about 8-10 weeks at current rate if usage. I like the roller mat. I used to clean Eheim filters out every 4-6 weeks, but the mat is a lazy man’s god-send.

How many gallons and how long the roll last for youI got the reef mat 500 because it fits my sump and I've never been more pleased with any equipment purchase in this hobby, 5 stars!
I've heard nothing but bad reviews about themReefmat, if it fits, it's not even close currently.
I do think the clarisea can fit into smaller spaces
Mine is great.I've heard nothing but bad reviews about them
