So my old 150 gpd 5 stage RODI unit broke due to me being careless and leaving it outside and plugged in, where it rusted and broke

I’m wondering if any of you have some good recommendations. I know this is a pretty common question but I have found that most recommendations are pretty outdated. My only requirement is that it is above 100 gpd because I cannot stand waiting an hour for a 5 gallon bucket to fill, when I have a 75 gallon aquarium

I’m hoping to spend around $300, preferably less, and bulkreef seems to be a bit above that price range so I’m wanting something to compare.

I was looking at the simpure and then adding my old deionization unit to it, but it seems too good to be true, thoughts?

What broke? Most of it is just plastic unless you have some proprietary unit. Some parts of my unit are over 25 years old. I would think it would be cheaper to just replace what broke and get new filters. In any case, if you are on city water, you should get a copy of their latest water quality report to find out what is in your water.

The booster pump broke, the wires on the power supply are ruined, everything is very rusty as it was left outside for a month or so.

I agree it might be able to be fixed but it seems to be a bit above my skill level

Also I’m on a well, my nitrates and minerals are high. In fact I’m currently looking for a solution to the high nitrates in my tap water because it’s difficult on my freshwater tanks

Is it a proprietary system? Might help if we knew exactly what you have now.

That is a drinking water system. The last filter actually adds back minerals to the water. Plus it is proprietary so you are stuck buying their replacement filters. I also don't like how they recommend to replace the RO filter after 12 months. A good RO membrane should last 5+ years unless you are making a ton of water.

It’s this https://a.co/d/7Tnntam

Honestly I liked it, but I’m overwhelmed with repairing it because there’s a lot of smaller parts here like the picture I sent. I certainly would like to save the money however if it seems that it could be fixed

I’m going to check out these parts and see how expensive they are. However I wouldn’t mind an upgrade anyways.

Yeah I saw it has remineralization, I assumed I could disconnect that and add my deionization unit. It just seems like a convenient RO unit because it’s got a high GPD.

How's your water pressure?

This was just on sale for $299 recently.

Looks like it is not worth it if you wanted to stay with Ispring. The pump is $107 and then another $70 for the transformer. Plus you probably need new filters so it would actually be cheaper to just buy a new system like you have. I personally would stay away from the 400gpd system. I would be surprised if you got better than the 95% tds rejection rate so you would eat thru DI.

Also, check out the sponsor on here, Buckeye Hydro. He has a DI filter that is made to remove nitrates. I don't know your concentration so not sure how long it would last.

My water pressure is not great, if I remember correctly it’s around 40-45 but I can’t remember exactly how much it was… so I would probably have to buy a booster pump with that filter, and since it’s no longer on sale that could add up to $500 which is way too much for me right now considering I was hoping to set up a new quarantine tank

My tap water reads like ~30 nitrate… it’s really bad and makes water changes miserable, but good to know.

I’m thinking I could just rebuy this filter, it would be ~$220, I mean there’s a reason I bought it in the first place.

I’m also thinking I could buy a cheaper unit like from filterdirect such as this one and then attach my own booster pump to help with my low psi

Also the simpure actually has a 35% off coupon so it would be $220, it doesn’t seem like the most efficient RODI unit but with that price drop, and with free shipping it looks like a pretty good deal, even if I am very suspicious of it. With that price drop (assuming that’s legit), thoughts?

And actually this deal is also available through Amazon, so that seems like a real deal, I also could order a better DI resin filter along with it, and then if I want water for my freshwater tanks, just use the DI resin filter

So I’ve decided I’m going to go with the simpure because it is a good price considering the GPD, I’m going to hook up a DI resin filter (or two) afterwards and see if I can get 0 TDS, if it doesn’t perform how I’m wanting, I’m going to return it but I think since it (appears) to be such a good deal, I’m going to give it a chance
