The one of the many thing I that come to mind is that

"nothing good happens fast in your reef tank! "

When you see a spot of rust on the magnet TAKE IT OUT immediately. And, always take the time to QT corals. I ended up with Monti Eating Nudis AND BJD from an online vendor. The BJD was QTed but the Nudis weren't visible and the eggs hatched AFTER I transferred them to the DT...

After your tank is stable and you start testing for Alkalinity, Calcium and Magnesium keep track of your results and quit making quick irrational decisions on the results. Quit playing the numbers game and try to maintain the optimal parameters that was fed to you. Watch for trends of your results. As long as the corals look happy, healthy and growing you have to be doing something right. Don't sweat the numbers and take your time. You learn from experience, some bad and hopefully most good. I've been playing this saltwater game for almost 35 years and am still learning how corals react one way or another.

This my second answer, more serious than my first. Daily inspection of the tank, equipment and inhabitants can prevent many problems. I do my due diligence every day almost(main exception is every Wednesday when I’m at work for 16 hrs). Check the tank , dose if needed, clean the glass etc.. Its saved me problems at least a few times.

Changing to many things at once trying to fix something wrong can end in more harm then good.
