July 23rd entry: Mind blown from these statements as I'd never known/heard this before:
Scientists estimate that 50 -80% of all of the oxygen we breath comes from photosynthetic algae in the ocean. Much of this is produced specifically by the zooxanthellae algae living in the tissues of coral.

We all hear about rainforest, but we REALLY need to talk about Oceans more. Wish there was footnote or reference what above ocean algae oxygen percentage range is based upon - that is significant!!

Just checked out the reef institute thread, I didn't know much of the world's oxygen comes from the ocean and much of that from the same alage in our corals. Also I heard Shiba is now about saving the reefs. I have a cat, so interesting .

It r:(eally sucks that these companies won't allow winners in Alaska or Hawaii. If the winner is willing to foot the shipping cost why can't OCONUS enter. I feel like it really excludes a fair amount of military, ret, and GS.

This, right here, tells you how little we know about the oceans and what they do for the entire planet. It is amazing when we learn something new!

July 23rd entry:

Move over rainforests! I had no idea algae is responsible for the majority of the O2 we breathe.

July 23rd entry. I learned ORA, ocean resource alliance has a number of awesome projects going now that you can support through their gofundme page. One of them is the mermaid project where they are making 1000 mermaid modules (artificial reef structures) to replenish lost fish and coral habitats along Florida. Great cause. If i weren’t unemployed, I’d donate today.

July 23rd - ORA can bodycast a person to create a memorial? What? Mind blown. Incredible work and as a Floridian, I am eternally grateful that we have such dedicated organizations working to save our coastlines.
