What’s up Reefers!
We can’t all be Marine Biologists or Oceanographers, our lives take us on different paths sometimes. I’m a Journeyman Millwright of 20 years, basically an industrial mechanic. My super power is the ability to look at mechanical things that fail or need servicing, and figure out how to do so.

This ability and training allows me to diagnose and rectify many mechanical issues with reef tanks. I am also conditioned to perform regular maintenance routines on my tanks as well.

So my question to you is, what is YOUR profession, and how does it help you with reefing? :thinking-face:

Web development, mostly front end centered around building and maintaining WP sites. I’ve also done a lot of interactive pieces over the years so it’s a good amount of researching, tinkering, building then figuring out how to do it better the next time. Can’t imagine how that’d be helpful in reefing ;-)

My grad school work was in Library-Information Sciences so again, researching and figuring organization and the relationship between things. That’s served me well in my main area if interest in reefing- zoa collecting.

Retired but own mountain air custom air guns and work/build custom air guns to keep me busy. (although I have a Blue Shrimp tank and desk bowl, Tetra tank, and a Koi Pond) Nano reef tank is in the on-hold stage since I am selling my house to build a bigger Koi Pond. Will have plenty of time to make Reefing one of my hobbies once I get started up. I really want to get started now but don't want to have to tear it down when moving. Will have enough on my plate.

I am a retired construction worker. I worked for 45 years as a union heat and frost insulator.
That covered most every type of insulation except house insulation.
My specific trade really didn't help much in this hobby, but it did give me the confidence to work with my hands and build many things. Stands, canopies, tanks, skimmers, and problem solve.

I’m an Environmental Specialist for County Natural Resources Dept. Being in the sciences, water testing helps me a great deal with water chemistry, Biology, and all that fun stuff going on in our tanks. I’m always fascinated to still learn new things every day!

Career #1A: high school IB biology and Enviro Sci teacher. This is my 5th year of teaching.

Career #1B: reef aquarium design, installation, and management company owner. 20 yrs in business, 30 yrs of work experience.

I haven’t had my own tank for over 20 yrs, but set up a 180 mixed reef in my classroom this year. It’s been fun. My work experience helps me because I have probably seen every possible thing that could ever happen in a reef tank, and have probably seen them at least 100 times.
