Also is it true that once all the legs of the starfish are the same size that the starfish is ready to divide?

I find that the astrea stars love the algae that forms on my glass and rocks (not hair algae, the normal crap that you generally clean off the glass). You can trace where they have went as they consume this green slime algae.

So, I say yes. If they consume the algae on my glass, then nutrients helps that grow therefore, the stars reproduced accordingly.:eek:

I agree with the above. I see the stars all over my glass munching on the freash thin film of algee the forms after a few days on my glass.

i agree that by adding a harlequin sea star, you can subtract the asterina population from your tank :tongue:

Are asterinas bad? I have some in my sump. Came in on chaeto from a friends tank. I take them out as soon as I see them. Are they beneficial at all?

i have had many. seems like i have a lot at one time & then just a few. never had any problems with them bothering anything. i believe there is a type that will eat corals but are not very common in reef trade.someone correct me if im wrong
