Pictures.
4/13/23
5/2/23

Whats going on here?
This guy is fully open during the day still.

Two months ago had an issue with Tin, tungsten and a few other metals.

last month large water changes along with cuprisorb. Flatlined some trace elements, solved issue.

ozone was started on 4/16/23 discontinued on 5/8/23. Initially coral polyp extension increased.

Tank was left untouched for 4/18/23-4/29/23

working on resolving trace element imbalances now with icp and continued large water changes. 5-10% per day.

no new live stock added in 9 months.

clownfish seen in picture one are relocated to another tank, as the decided to host and upset this guy

I’m not sure why the pearl bubble looks so closedown, but if the pictures show the coral after “lights out” then I think it’s just fast growing-especially if it looks “fluffy”and opens up nicely during the day?.

I had one that grew quickly and I believe that it went through and adjustment period after I bought it home. Later, I accidentally fragged it and the two pieces grew so fast that I remember that it was changing shape rapidly as it gained new skeleton and I think I had a similar thought process that made you post this question?

If it is fluffy when the light is bright it is just doing its thing. I hope that is what we are looking at.

I traded mine in because it got huge. I think you’re going to have to frag it somewhere down the line once it gets to big for you tank.

Just to clarify, are you referring to the hole in the middle? You mentioned some metals and trace elements. What have your other parameters (alkalinity, nitrate, phosphate) been at during all of this?

Yes you can see from the pictures it has been increasing in size. The coral seems otherwise happy. Its likely 14” wide.

The alk does not fluctuate more then 0.20 dkh in a day. I test every hour using apex. Typically alk stays around 8.2 according to hanna checker.
The nitrate is currently 5ppm. Last week was 12ppm. Normally i try to keep it around 7ppm with addition of sodium nitrate.

Phosphate is around 0.015ppm or lower according to icp-oes. Its always been low, even with additions of phosphate, I stopped adding it regularly at the beginning of this year because of slime algae issues. Tank is 18months old.

When I had issues with tissue recession on otherwise happy looking LPS it was because of ridiculously high nutrients while combatting dinos. So I was going to guess it could be that, but it looks like your parameters are ok. It seemed like a Lugols dip did help provide some relief.

How long ago were the clowns removed? Has the tissue continued to receed since they were removed?

Clownfish removed on 4/14 if I remember correctly.

I did notice something interesting today, the area that is receding has very low flow. I noticed uneaten food entrapped in this area. I’ll see about blowing this area clean daily. Do you think it might be worth doing a chemiclean treatment, I have never seen any really negative results from chemiclean, in-fact its helped with sps stn on a few occasions.

Hopefully something as simple as keeping it clean will help.

I don't have any experience with Chemiclean outside of its intended use for cyano. Since I can't help with that, hopefully bumping the thread will at least draw the attention of someone that can.

Still expanding recession. Went to blow it out today and its definitely a detritus trap. When I blew on the edge of the tissue with a turkey baster, it lifted slightly. There is either a bacteria eating this or parasite.
Ideas please!
