rdirtytwo's Landen 60P (26.23g) all-in-one

I will preface this build thread by saying that I have been in the reef keeping hobby for just over a year now, but I've been keeping freshwater planted tanks for many years before. This will be my second reef build. Hopefully things go smoother with the knowledge I've gained so far.

Tank specs:
•23.6W x 17.7D x 15.8H in (60x45x40cm)
•8mm glass thickness, low iron
•Includes their BIOSMO 700 Pump (185gph) with sine wave controller. I have it currently set on max flow, wave mode. We'll see if we need to upgrade that later.

03/23/24:
Cabinet assembled and tank set up. Leak tested inside (oops) and no issues after 24 hours. My wife loves her phalaenopsis orchids in the reflection.
PXL_20240326_074507948.jpg

03/26/24:
Completed the aquascape with dry base rocks that I broke using a hammer to give character. At this point I thought I was going to do a bare bottom tank. I added approximately 2lb of live rubble and a filter pad from my other nano tank to the rear compartment of this tank to help seed beneficial bacteria.
PXL_20240402_071047362.jpg

03/29/24:
I changed my mind and decided I wanted sand dwellers so I added a 20lb bag of CaribSea AragAlive Special Grade. I probably didn't need the AragAlive version, but I got a good deal on it. I put a piece of filter pad on the intake of an extra water pump to help clear the particulates out of the water after adding sand. It cleared up in 12-18 hours.

For giggles, I threw on one of my wife's extra 24" indoor plant grow light with W,B,R channels using only Blue (450nm) to see how it would look. Not bad for a cheap home depot 19w light.
PXL_20240419_071214402.MP.jpg

04/25/24:
I added a Pajama Cardinal as my first fish about a week ago after doing my first big water change.

04/26/24:
I added a Nero 3 for flow. Does anyone have any recommended settings for intensity/pattern for a 24" tank? My plans for this tank will be mixed LPS and SPS later when it matures. I figure I'll set myself up with a good wavemaker now, rather than later. I really like the functionality and customizability on the MyAi flow app so far.

I finally got the Smatfarm G6 140w set up after not running lights other than for briefly viewing of doing maintenance. There's not a lot of information on this model yet so I have the settings dialed way down to 15% with no white at the moment. The build quality on these lights seem pretty decent. It doesn't feel cheaply made and has some weight to it.

From what the manual shows, the channels are different from the G5.
Ch1: Still 14000k Cool White
Ch2: Additional 455nm Blue, Replaces 470nm with 460nm
Ch3: Additional 455nm Blue
Ch4: No change
Ch5: Replaces 3000k Warm White with 520nm Green
Ch6: Replaces 500nm Green with 630nm Red.
GridArt_20240501_040233076.jpg
The spectrum is nice but the white is overpowering. I've been playing around with different settings but I can't seem to get good color pop/fluorescence. I'm probably going to end up adding an led bar in the future. What's recommended, a single 470nm bar(seems lacking in this fixture), or a bar with a 450nm/430nm/410nm combo?

Thank you very much for your detailed review.
I previously purchased the G3 on my first tank and I now want a bigger tank.
I've been watching the G6 for a long time, but I've never been able to find a detailed review.
The light looks pretty good now.

The light looks pretty good. I have another nano that has an led fixture with primarily 450nm, 430nm diodes (much deeper/royal blue) and when you compare them with just blues on, the G6 has a wider band/blend of blues that kind of look closer to 470nm to the eyes. The controls are basically the same as the previous gens. So far, I'm really liking the lights. I can't say how well they grow coral since I only had my frags in the tank for a couple days now.

Hopefully I can get my hands on a par meter to take real measurements in the near future.

So I figured I'm due for an update. I've been keeping up with the 2.5g weekly water changes and doing manual top offs. I haven't gotten around to buying an ATO yet, but I should since my tank is next to the window and Summer is near.

Speaking of Summer, I got a dual cooling fan set up, but I haven't gotten an inkbird temperature controller yet. That's on my list for this week.

05/24/24
It turns out my heater hasn't been working since I changed the water a week ago. Display temperature was at 72 during the day when I caught the malfunction. I like to keep my window cracked open at night for fresh air so who knows how low the temperature has been swinging overnight.. some of my corals were not happy but they look to be slowly bouncing back.

06/01/24
My Cynarina was taking up 1/4 of my sandbed and I hated not letting it be able to open up freely in my nano/pico 9g, so I moved it here. Looking happy as can be.

Please disregard the hue in the photos. My phone's camera sensor is picking up the neon red frag rack in the back.

Recent purchases:
Green finger sinularia
Unnamed indo torch
Teal/green/red micromussa

Newest addition:
I picked up this pink tipped frogspawn yesterday and it has more extension than when it was in the store already.

The unnamed indo torch is also looking great. I'm just not sure where to glue it on my rockwork.

So I stole a lot of corals from my other tank. Lol.

PXL_20240617_023823868.MP.jpg
My RBTA decided to move from the back of the rockwork to the left side, so that's a plus for me. You can see it when you're sitting on the couch next to the tank.

I bought myself a 2 headed splatter branching hammer for Father's Day. 1000003606.jpg

The only thing I'm not sure about is the monti cap that isn't doing well. It seems to be pale or bleaching. I did have the lights at a higher intensity last week, but dialed it down 10%. It hasn't gotten worse than how it looks now. Nitrates were between 10-20 ppm before the water change.

Latest parameters with calibrated refractometer and Salifert test kits.

1.026 salinity
8.8 dKh
470 Ca

Under full spectrum lighting. There's not a lot of info on my particular light, so I guess I'll just provide my light settings for anyone who uses the Smatfarm G6 140w LEDs. It's basically mimicking the AB+ profile, but reduced 75% as these are strong lights. I still haven't gotten a par meter, so I'm winging it based on the manufacturers PPFD graph.

I'm aiming for 200 par at the highest point of my rockwork, ~14" from the light. I know it's not accurate, but I'll take close for now. My FF digitata had been growing in my smaller tank under what I perceive as higher light for the past 6 months. I should be able to tell if or when something looks wrong with it by now.

Thank you!

I just did my weekly 10% water change and glued some coral down and it's coming along.

Finally got an ATO hooked up to a 2.5g glass tank from Petco as the reservoir. I also added a shelf to my cabinet. PXL_20240623_043800154.MP.jpg
So satisfying when it all starts coming together, keep up the good work.

How are your nitrates and phosphates in this tank? I have the same tank and there are two areas in the sump chambers that are nutrient traps and hard to clean.
