Now that I have a decent understanding of how fish disease spreads and lives in our tanks, I am at a point where I need to get a quarantine set up. With that said, what is the smallest and most economic way to get a quarantine tank running? I don’t plan on keeping many fish, maybe adding 3-4 more to my system. All nano-sized, unless I can find a small tang to have for a couple years.

Anyone have some advice on a build for a small quarantine tank? I also don’t have much room. Would a 10-20 gallon tank even work for a quarantine?

Personally I like to see at least a 20 gallon QT, but if your only keeping nano fish only qt'ing 1-2 at a time, then a 10 gallon could work

A starter kit from Walmart has most of the essentials needed as well as a used setup if 20-40 gallons on Craigslist or facebook marketplace
If used- assure not leakers

I bought someone’s failed gold fish setup 10g off of Facebook marketplace. It came with a heater , filter , light , cleaning gear , chemicals. Basically over 200$ worth of stuck for 50$. Those deals are easy to find if you’re patient enough.

One thing you should avoid IMO - many people use bins or totes as cheap holding tanks. However, those do not allow for lateral/side viewing of the fish, right at the point where that is most vital to ensure the fish are eating, not breathing too fast, not fighting, etc.

A 10-20 gallon tank with a sponge filter would work fine. However, I don't know what fish you have now - and what size fish you're adding. Have you quarantined your fish that you have (not sure you have any yet).
