I’ve had this godspawn for a few months in which time it doubled in size and appeared very happy. Two days ago it was retracted and yesterday a good chunk of it seems to have melted away… what do you think could have done this?
All other corals in the tank seem happy/normal; corals include many other mushrooms, zoas, chalice, euphyllia, plate, cynarina, etc., seem happy (with the exception of a Duncan on the opposite side of the tank).
temp: 76.5°
Salinity: 1.025
NO3: 13 - I did just add snails, some of which were dead so nitrate was temporarily high prior to water change
PO4: 0.097
Calc: 455
Dkh: 8.0
MG: 1300
Volume: 75gal
Water chemistry is generally stable and is auto doses via dosetronic.
My best guess is that the nearby jawbreaker touched it… but I hadn’t known discoma to have such an aggressive sting as to melt a rhodactis over night.
Any other thoughts or experience with disco coming into contact with rhodactis?
mad mushroom:
the same mushroom last week, and how it typically looks:
