Have 2 pyramid butterfly fish in quarantine. Been there for since 6/26/2024, When they arrived, Looked good except had some mouth (lip damage) . As I started treatment with copper power, I dosed nitrofurazone as well.
Mouth healed on both 100% in a week or so.
On 7/12 i noticed a sore on gill plate . I thought would heal with nitro. At times , thought was getting better, 7/16 copper treatment complete. No meds . WC 50% on 7/17 . Getting copper out.
7/19 another WC 25%
7/20 1st dose of Prozi pro.
Notice a few flukes not terrible.
Sore on gill starting to look real bad.
Started dosing nitrofuracin green on 7/21
Follow directions on all meds.
Even with the 4 days of nfg, the sore(hole) in gill is bad You can see into his gill plate. What is odd, both fish eat like pigs. 2 times a day. I know some will ask if I check for ammonia , NO3. I check everything. I looking for answers on what to do next as far as the sore. I’m wanting to stop the nfg. Sorry about the poor image. But the sore is dark red, could be the gill plate itself, since it’s a hole

This is likely an infection that may have begun with injury. Stop with the meds especially nitro and prazi would have done nothing and was used too short of a span.
You want to treat in separate tank using Seachem Kanaplex before it worsens yet

If you saw flukes without using a microscope, those are Neobenedenia. Pyramids almost always come in with those. You'll need to dose prazi at least three times, 8 days apart, prazi doesn't kill the eggs and you need to try and time things so that any eggs hatch out, attach to the fish, then you kill them with a subsequent dose of prazi, hopefully before they lay eggs of their own. This is tough to do. Personally, I use 30 days of half salinity to get rid of Neobendenia.

The hole in the gill cover is probably an injury followed by a bacterial infection. That is going to take a long time to heal (and may never close up) NFG isn't my drug of choice, but you should probably run a full course of that since you've already begin. If the hole grows larger, that means the infection is still active, you might want to try Neoplex then.

Thanks. Guys, for the info, I stopped the NFG, since it was only day 4 using it. Reason I’m scheduled for the second dose of Prozi. I didn’t want to mix meds.Keep in mind I have a pair of pyramids. The smaller one is perfectly healthy, after this treatment of prozi, going to separate them, I truly appreciate any help and suggestions.

Hey guys, just a quick update on the pyramid Butterfly with the sore on gill.
After dosing 2 doses of kanaplex , 48 hrs apart, I took both out of quarantine (been in there 40 days) placed in DT. I believe between meds and good bacteria from DT , the gill closed and healed 100%.
Would like to thank those who assisted on here, Also want to thank Eric with Tank Stop who helped behind the scenes. (Hope short video plays)
