I’ve decided to give in and drill a hole in my house for pulling outside air to the skimmer. I will be pulling from a PVC intake pipe I’m mounting to the back of my house just above the foundation of a walk-out basement. i have a screen to prevent bugs and other small animals from crawling in, but I’m concerned about chemicals, especially since I live in the woods and treat my yard with pyrethroids for ticks and other pests. My city also fogs the area weekly in the summer for mosquito control.

I’m thinking I will use a couple of carbon reactors to purify the incoming air. Is this sufficient? How often would you suggest the carbon needs to be changed?

I have just that. A carbon filter. I just popped it on the end of the line.
How often do you change the carbon? I worry because I know there will be harmful chemicals back there from time to time and they don’t make any kind of indicator I know of to tell me when it needs changing.

What kind of carbon filter do you use? I always get nervous when the landscapers truck through. Sounds like a good idea for several possibilities.

I just use a long co2 scrubber on my intake line, works as good if not better than running the intake outside

Ya, I used one for a while but it goes through media really fast and I’m all about low maintenance. Exchanging soda lime every 2 weeks isn’t super appealing. I’m hoping the carbon filter on an external air line will last much longer.

Well, I got it at work. Not sure the brand but it's made for air purification for a Blum laser(tool measuring).
If anyone's doing any kind of spraying around house I turn my skimmer off for that time.

Ah, so you are using an industrial filter designed for air purification. I was considering that, but the current plan was just to use a reactor like I would use for water in the tank and fill it with ROX 0.8 GAC. Good point about turning off the skimmer proactively.

I think that would work, absolutely.

Here is my setup:

Pool noodle in the window:

A large tube then goes to my DIY charcoal pellet filter.

2 small lines then go to my skimmer.

The screen still fits on the window, it’s just not on in the pic. I change the charcoal every 6 months.
