Checked on my porc puffer today and noticed right between his eyes there are red-ish like spots where he’s been rubbing his head against the front of the tank. I tried earlier to catch him and put some methalyne blue on it but is there anything else I could do?

FOWLR tank: Porc puff., 2 ocellaris, 1 coral beauty, and a royal gam. basslet.

My puffer does this too but he doesn’t often get sores anymore. Puffers are highly intelligent creatures who can get bored and many enjoy chasing their reflection which can lead to these rub marks. And when you are in the room they tend to get excited and do this even more at least mine does. I treat mine with Kanaplex if it gets really bad. But they do heal too so if you don’t notice it getting worse or infected you may not need to treat it with anything. Just monitor it! Have you had him for long? Sometimes it takes them a bit to get used to seeing their reflection while others just like to glass surf nonstop.

Had him since august, he glass surfs all the time. Whether it be when he sees me or when he’s doing something else. I never really see him swim across the tank often
